Rain's POV:
"Nico, I don't think this is a good idea. I had a blast, really, but I have to get home."
The words came out thin, almost a squeak, vibrating against the sudden drop in temperature.
We were standing just outside the hospital complex, the towering glass structure looming over us .
Every breath felt like inhaling glass; the tip of my nose burned with the deepening chill.
"What are you so scared of?" He didn't look back.
He just singsonged the words into the biting wind, his voice light and dangerously airy.
"Come on! We're young, Rain. There's no such thing as fear."
He started moving—not toward the main entrance where the light was, but cutting through the shadows toward the fire emergency door.
That is the most bullshit thing I have ever heard.
Fear exists. I feel it all the time.
