I was still trying to catch my breath from that kiss...lips tingling, heart doing a silly little tap dance in my chest, when Xavier gently reached up with one hand to tuck a stray lock of hair behind my ear.
It was such a soft, unexpectedly tender gesture from someone who usually kept his cool composure that my brain just... short-circuited. His fingertips lingered a moment longer than necessary, warm against my skin, and then he said, his voice low and sincere,
"Thank you for the cookies, Theodore."
Fuck.... He said it like he was reviewing a business deal.
But when his thumb brushed my temple before he pulled his hand away, it turned that compliment into something more intimate, and I could feel heat flooding my cheeks, I went from feeling totally fine to absolutely flushed in no time.
All I could manage was a stuttered, "Th-thank you," which came out totally awkward, like I'd just swallowed a bug.
