I stayed there, pressed against Xavier's chest, my arms tightly around his waist, feeling the steady beat of his heart through the crisp fabric of his shirt. Tears threatened to spill from my eyes, warm and stubborn, no matter how hard I tried to blink them back.
Overwhelmed didn't quite capture it; joy and disbelief tangled in my chest like a storm I didn't want to calm, because for once, it felt good...so achingly good, to just embrace it all without feeling like I was getting dangerously too close heartbreak.
I tried to keep it cool, naturally, because that's what I always did to stave off the chaos. A shaky laugh bubbled up from my chest as I tilted my head to sneak a glance at him, my voice muffled against his shirt.
Turns out, being bold about wanting to fuck your boss could get you in this position.
