The city had stopped pretending this was a fight.
It was a natural disaster now.
Concrete screamed under pressure. Steel bent like paper. Entire rooftops had been torn open, reduced to jagged platforms barely holding themselves together.
And in the middle of it—
Oden stood, breathing heavier than before.
Not exhausted.
Not yet.
But closer than he wanted to admit.
Across from him, Satoru Gojo looked… the same.
Untouched.
Relaxed.
Interested.
"…You're still standing," Gojo said lightly. "That's impressive."
Oden didn't answer.
His grip tightened on the Heaven-Defying Staff.
His mind raced.
Not desperately.
Logically.
'There has to be a way.'
His eyes. Those serpent-like eyes scanned everything.
Heat signatures.
Airflow.
Micro-movements.
Gojo wasn't just fast.
He was efficient to a level that bordered on absurd.
Every dodge.
Every step.
Minimum movement. Maximum effect.
'Then don't chase him.'
Oden exhaled slowly.
'Corner him.'
The ground beneath his feet cracked.
He moved.
—
A burst forward.
The staff extended instantly, slicing through the air toward Gojo's midsection—
Gojo shifted.
Minimal.
Just enough.
The staff missed but didn't retract.
Instead—
It kept extending.
Past Gojo.
Past the rooftop.
Across the street and slammed into the side of a distant building.
Oden pivoted instantly.
The staff expanded again, widening, anchoring itself between two massive structures like a steel beam forced into place by sheer will.
Gojo raised a brow.
"…Oh?"
Oden didn't stop.
He lunged again—
Another strike—
Another extension—
The staff multiplied its reach, growing, shifting, stretching—
Until—
Gojo was boxed in.
Trapped between two towering buildings and a web of cursed energy constructs that functioned as both weapon and barrier.
A cage.
A moment—
just a moment—
of stillness.
Then—
Oden raised his hand.
"…Go."
From the staff—
They emerged.
Snakes.
Dozens.
Flowing like liquid shadows along the length of the weapon, slithering at impossible speeds toward the center—
Toward Gojo.
Fangs bared.
Venom ready.
A kill.
Gojo stood still.
Watching.
The snakes reached him—
Closed in—
Struck.
And for the first time—
There was no Infinity.
No invisible barrier.
No endless space.
The Heaven-Defying Staff had done its job.
Cursed techniques—
Nullified.
The snakes lunged—
—
And the world broke.
A shockwave erupted outward.
Not from cursed energy—
But from force.
Pure.
Refined.
Violent.
Gojo moved.
Not away—
Through.
His body twisted at angles that shouldn't have been possible, slipping between the snakes with surgical precision. His hand caught one mid-strike, snapping its form apart with raw physical reinforcement alone.
A step—
A pivot—
A blur—
He was already out.
Free.
Standing atop the staff itself as the remaining snakes snapped uselessly at empty air.
Oden's eyes widened slightly.
Just slightly.
"…You're kidding me."
Gojo dusted off his shoulder casually.
"…You turned off my technique," he admitted. "Nice move."
A small grin.
"But you forgot something."
He tapped his chest lightly.
"I'm still me."
Oden didn't respond.
Because he understood.
That wasn't Infinity.
That wasn't Limitless.
That was skill.
Refinement.
Experience.
A body honed to operate even without its greatest advantage.
Gojo crouched slightly—
Then vanished.
Oden barely reacted in time.
The impact came from the side—
A kick—
Heavy.
Precise.
Oden was sent flying, crashing through the anchored staff itself, the structure destabilizing instantly as he tore through it and into the building beyond.
Concrete collapsed around him.
Dust swallowed everything.
Silence—
Then—
Movement.
Oden pushed himself up slowly.
His breathing was heavier now.
Clear.
Unmistakable.
His arms trembled slightly.
But he stood.
Again.
Across the rubble, Gojo walked forward.
Unhurried.
"…That was a good idea," he said. "Really."
Oden wiped blood from the corner of his mouth.
"…Didn't work."
Gojo shrugged.
"Most things don't."
A pause.
Oden steadied his stance.
Staff reforming in his grip.
His chest rose.
Fell.
Rose again.
He was reaching his limits.
He knew it.
But—
He didn't step back.
Didn't hesitate.
Didn't quit.
Gojo watched him for a moment.
Then smiled.
"…You're stubborn."
Oden's eyes sharpened.
"…I'm not done."
A beat.
Then—
He moved again.
Because stopping—
Was never an option.
---
The battlefield had gone quiet in the way only aftermath could be.
No more collapsing structures. No more shifting air pressure. No more cursed energy tearing at reality itself.
Just dust.
And something heavier than dust. Silence that felt earned.
Oden stood at the center of it.
Breathing shallow.
His arms hung low, trembling slightly from exertion. The Heaven-Defying Staff pulsed faintly in his grip, as if resisting even existing at this scale of output.
Then—
He expanded it.
Not slightly.
Not tactically.
Fully.
The staff grew. Rapid, violent, immense, stretching outward until it dwarfed the surrounding buildings. It became something between a weapon and a catastrophe: a colossal extension of cursed will shaped into impossible geometry.
Oden's eyes sharpened.
"…End."
He swung.
The entire structure moved.
Like a falling tower turned weapon.
It tore through the air, dragging sound itself into a screaming vacuum as it barreled straight toward its target.
Satoru Gojo stood where he always had.
Still.
Watching.
And then—
Impact.
—
The world exploded into white noise.
Buildings on either side of the strike fractured outward in cascading waves. The ground beneath cracked so deeply it seemed to split the city itself. Dust swallowed everything within seconds.
Oden didn't move.
He didn't breathe.
He just waited.
For confirmation.
For silence to mean success.
Minutes passed in seconds.
Then—
Something shifted.
A figure stepped forward through the collapsing dust.
Unhurried.
Unbothered.
Still standing.
Gojo emerged.
His uniform torn slightly at the shoulder. One corner of his lip was split, a thin line of red tracing downward.
That was it.
No missing limbs.
No fatal wound.
Just—
Blood.
Oden's eyes widened.
"…I hit him."
A beat.
Then—
A faint exhale escaped him.
Not disbelief.
Not shock.
Relief.
And something almost like pride.
"…I actually hit him."
His legs gave out.
Not dramatically.
Not suddenly.
Just the body finally refusing to continue.
He collapsed onto one knee, then forward into the rubble, the Heaven-Defying Staff dispersing into particles of cursed energy as his grip loosened.
Gojo watched him fall.
Then tilted his head slightly.
"…Cursed energy depletion," he muttered to himself. "Yeah. That'll do it."
He took a slow step forward.
Then another.
Looking down at Oden with something closer to curiosity than judgment.
"…He dumped everything into that last attack," Gojo said quietly. "Trying to finish it in one shot."
A pause.
Then—
A small smile.
"…Stupid."
But not insulting.
Almost… fond.
Gojo crouched slightly, observing him more closely now.
"But I like it."
—
Footsteps interrupted the silence.
Fast.
Urgent.
Miguel appeared through the dust, his expression sharp, tense. Eyes immediately locking onto Oden's collapsed form.
"…Don't."
His voice was firm.
Not loud.
But absolute.
Gojo didn't even turn fully toward him.
"…Don't what?"
Miguel stepped forward.
"Don't kill him."
A pause.
The air shifted slightly.
Gojo finally looked at him.
Then back at Oden.
"…Kill him?" Gojo repeated, almost amused. "Why would I kill him?"
Miguel didn't answer immediately.
He just stared.
Gojo stood up slowly.
"I don't waste things like this."
A faint grin returned.
"He's a good one."
—
One day later.
White light.
Stillness.
Oden woke slowly.
His vision blurred at first. Then sharpened.
He blinked once.
Then froze.
The ceiling above him wasn't a ceiling.
It was layered with symbols.
Yellow tags.
Seals.
Dense, structured markings covering the walls like a cage made of intent rather than metal.
He sat up slightly.
"…What is this place…"
His body ached.
Every muscle protested.
Cursed energy. Nearly gone.
He turned his head.
And saw him.
Sitting across from him.
Calm.
Relaxed.
Watching.
Blindfold back in place.
Gojo smiled slightly.
"…Oh. You're awake."
A pause.
The air tightened.
Gojo tilted his head.
Then said it simply.
"You've been sentenced to execution."
