Ethan;
I wake up too fast.
There's no drifting… No gradual return, or gentle slurs.
It's a full, sudden jerk back to consciousness.
My eyes snap open, and for a second, there's nothing.
Until my lungs viciously demand air. I inhale deeply, and the air seems filled with little daggers as it travels down to my lungs.
I just woke up, but I can feel my heart already racing.
I don't understand why. My body feels wrong.
Not painful… Not yet. But I can feel the pain coming.
The discomfort is just the first step.
I push myself up slowly, as I press a hand to my forehead.
My temperature has spiked again.
The room tilts as I look about it, and my stomach twists.
"…No."
The word comes out under my breath as I feel how parched my throat is.
I know this feeling. It's what I feared.
Even an increased dosage of the sedatives didn't work.
My skin feels hot. Too hot.
Like there's water boiling right beneath it.
