Chapter 16 - a short break

t[Enceladus: Saturn's moon. 3 weeks before the crash of the strange object near the boat hill.]The frozen surface of the moon is cold as always. The dark and starry sky—the lack of an atmosphere left the sky colorless, as well as the full view of space surrounding the celestial body.Ice and vapor were being expelled from the moon's South Pole. Near the vapor, a girl examined some footprints across the frozen surface of the moon. Her body was completely covered by an armor of steel plates reinforced by magic. Her body was also covered by a fur cloak that protected both the armor and the girl's body from the extreme cold of the celestial body."The footprints are going east." The voice came from a small emblem on the girl's chest. The emblem was made of stone with a face embedded in it.That was not just an emblem."I know, Tór, I learned how to track footprints!" The girl declares with a certain anger, her eyes rolling behind the gaps of her helm."I know, it's just that you're horrible at it," the emblem responds with indifferent disdain, which makes the girl even more irritated with her living adornment. But she brushes it aside; it is not worth wasting time falling for the emblem's provocations. She followed the footprints, her eyes paying full attention to every mark on the ice. She followed them without looking away anywhere else. Her hand was always near the great hammer on her back, prepared for any unwelcome surprises. The emblem kept chattering and throwing small insults at its owner. Which made her more annoyed than she would like to show. But she had a limit."Anyway, after all this monologue, I have concluded with absolute certainty: you are useless in every possible way. You should give up on any dream you innocently believe you are capable of achieving."The girl reached her limit. She grabbed the emblem and threw it to the ground, stomping on the living object with a certain rage."Will you shut up, you stupid golem?! You were supposed to be my personal assistant, not my private bully!" She continues to stomp with her patience worn thin, her feet striking the emblem with a force that caused the ground beneath it to crack."Thoffina…" the emblem tries to say something, but the girl, now identified as Thoffina, stops it rudely."No, that's enough of this! I'm tired of hearing that even the way I boil water is wrong!""Thoffina…""I was super excited for the chance to have an intelligent golem as an assistant, but if I knew I was going to be insulted every single second with you, I would have chosen to keep the pony!""Thoffina!...""What is it!"Her voice was cut off by the sound of the ice snapping and cracking. The frozen lake beneath her feet was giving way, and soon a hole opened up.Appendages emerged from the ice and tried to pierce the girl. She reacted quickly. Just before the ice gave way, Thoffina made a move that would make many soccer players jealous. She flips the emblem to rest on the top of her foot while leaping high into the air, escaping the monstrous appendages that tried to strike the girl like any ordinary prey. From the newly opened hole, a creature rose from the ice. Its shape was slender as it rose from the freezing water; from its long and thin torso, countless appendages emerged. The creature locked its countless eyes on the armored girl who had escaped its trap. She had drawn her hammer from her back; in the gaps of her helm, her excited smile was visible."Finally, something to smash!"Her hammer was enveloped in a golden glow, its tip expelling fire and glowing rocks.Supernatural energy circulated through her legs. The patterns were rigid yet elegant. The muscles in her lower limbs contracted unnaturally, her muscles becoming visible even over the steel of her armor. Then she dashed forward, the ground beneath her feet exploding and creating a small crater. In a second she was already close to the beast. With a single strike, the creature was sent flying away.It was a single-hit kill, leaving no chance for a reaction or a counter-attack."Yes! I did it in just one strike!" She did little excited hops like a thrilled child. From afar, the emblem looked at her and rolled its eyes. "SIGH Stop celebrating so much for so little."The girl barely heard it while still excitedly celebrating her easy victory.(...)Thoffina carried the dead body of the creature. She was heading back to a large flying boat.It was a grand solar caravan; its structure was made of a white material, and there were wing ornaments along the base of the ship. The front of the boat featured a gigantic unicorn statue. The sails were made of glowing fabric; small crystals interwoven among the threads captured the sunlight. She enters through the low entrance of the caravan, stepping into the ship's storage area. The place was surrounded by crates and various important items.Steel cages trapped multiple monstrous creatures. Glowing statues made their presence known among the crates.Through the corridors of the storage area, several workers walked around checking the cargo.Thoffina left the creature's body with some of the workers and made her way to the higher sections of the caravan's structure. She stayed in a room on the side of the ship, a part connected to the vessel's side entrances.A room adapted for putting on and taking off special armors meant to withstand the void of space."You were very careless on this mission. You would have died if the enemy were stronger," the emblem spoke while sitting on a locker room bench.Thoffina removed her armor piece by piece, revealing her white skin. Her body was patterned with stone marks similar to tattoos."Shut up! I wouldn't have gotten distracted if you hadn't been talking endlessly in my ears."The girl removed her helm; her straw-colored hair was tied in a ponytail, her ears were pointed and made of stone. From her forehead sprouted two horns made of stone."A true knight of the Order of the Alpine Unicorn would not be distracted by so little," the emblem speaks mockingly, making the girl roll her eyes.Thoffina puts on her noble white uniform, then snaps the emblem back onto her chest."So, Tór, what do I have on my to-do list now?""After this hunting training mission, you were supposed to have a break. But Lady Sileve demanded your presence at the last minute.""Master Sileve?" Thoffina exclaimed in astonishment while running quickly through the caravan's corridors."Calm down, Thoffina! No need to rush, she's not going anywhere!" Despite the attempt to calm her owner down, she completely ignores what the emblem was saying and keeps running at high speed. She only stops in front of a room. The girl slowed down completely upon getting close to the door. Her feet slide across the floor a few steps past the room. She walks back until she is standing in front of the door once again. Very carefully, she fixes her hair and clothes, trying to look presentable."How do I look?""Horrible as always, you will never have the elegance of Lady Sileve.""I don't even know why I asked you."After clearing her throat, Thoffina takes a deep breath, building up the courage to open the door.
