Chapter 204: Attack on Oscorp
"Shit!"
Deadpool searched the bodies for a long time, but he couldn't even find a penny.
"What a bunch of broke bastards," Deadpool muttered, wiping his hands on his suit in disgust. After all that effort, he hadn't managed to snag a single bit of profit.
He stuffed his burlap sack back into his crotch area and began skipping around, humming a tune as he looked for his next target.
The Kingpin's Gambit
"We have successfully diverted the attention of the military's main forces, Boss," Korff said, bowing his head.
"Begin the operation. I will not tolerate any failures this time. Even that 'pest' has left the city," replied a massive, mountain-like man sitting in a reinforced chair. His body was a wall of muscle, and he radiated the aura of a true monarch of the underworld. This was the King of Crime: Wilson Fisk, the Kingpin.
"Understood! There will be no mistakes!" Korff promised. He knew his boss was at the limit of his patience.
After the incident with the fake Kingpin was exposed by Spider-Man, their drug processing plant had been raided and dismantled. That loss had cut off numerous trade routes and resulted in a massive financial blow. Many business partners had severed ties, and the total damage was incalculable.
Fisk had pulled strings to get the fake Kingpin out of custody, only to throw him into a laboratory for "remodeling."
"If anything goes wrong, your head will be next," Fisk added, calmly writing on a piece of paper.
"Yes, sir!" Korff hurried away. It was time to move.
Oscorp Boardroom
"Harry Osborn, having reached eighteen years of age, is now eligible to inherit the shares of the Oscorp Tower held by his father, Norman Osborn..."
The lawyer stood before the Board of Directors, reading Norman's will. It seemed Norman had anticipated his own demise and had left the document hidden in his private quarters.
"Lucky brat," one director whispered.
"Must be nice to have a successful father," another mocked.
Harry Osborn, a handsome young man with pale skin and sharp features, sat at the table with a cold, calm expression. He ignored the snide remarks of the men around him.
"Regardless of your opinions, I own the largest stake in Oscorp. I am now the Chief Executive Officer. If anyone has an objection, speak up now."
Harry wasn't afraid of the directors. He held 30% of Oscorp's shares. This was thanks to his father, who—as the Green Goblin—had terrorized the board into panic-selling their shares at rock-bottom prices, which Norman then bought up to gain absolute control. Norman had, in a twisted way, paved the way for his son to rule the empire.
"I'm sorry, but if this company is handed over to a brat who's still wet behind the ears, I'm out," said the second-largest shareholder, a man named Moss. He owned 11%, and with the support of several smaller shareholders, he felt he could challenge Harry.
Had Norman been in the room, Moss wouldn't have dared to breathe a word of protest. But Norman was missing and presumed dead. Moss believed the "old fox" was always craftier than the cub.
"I agree!"
"I second that!"
Sixteen smaller shareholders voiced their support for Moss.
"Very well. Anyone else?" Harry asked coolly.
The remaining two directors looked at each other. One raised his hand tentatively. "Harry is Norman's successor. It's only right he takes the CEO position. We shouldn't judge him just because he's young..."
"I don't believe it's your turn to speak," Moss interrupted, casually sipping his coffee.
"You—!" The smaller shareholder turned red with rage. He only held a 1% stake and indeed had very little influence.
"What's the matter, Uncle Moss? Are you stripping people of their right to speak now?" Harry took the will from the lawyer and sat in the Chairman's seat.
"I don't wish to, Harry. It's just that... you haven't earned the respect of the board. I have to look out for everyone's interests," Moss replied smoothly. His goal was to eventually seize Harry's shares and turn Oscorp into the "Moss Group."
During the months Norman was missing, Moss had been running the show. He had fallen in love with the power. He loved being called "Chairman" rather than "Vice-Chairman."
"Well said, Uncle Moss. But..." Harry tapped the legal document on the table. "I'm sorry, I win."
"Fine, Harry. For now," Moss conceded. He knew he couldn't stop the legal inheritance, but he planned to sabotage Harry's leadership at every turn.
"Call me 'Chairman,'" Harry said, his eyes flashing with a sudden, dangerous intensity.
"Of course... Chairman," Moss hissed through gritted teeth.
Chaos at the Tower
BOOM!
A deafening explosion rocked the building. The entire Oscorp Tower swayed under the impact.
"What was that?!" Harry shouted, nearly falling out of his chair.
"What's happening down there?!" Moss demanded, his composure vanishing instantly.
A frantic subordinate burst into the room, gasping for air. "We're under attack! Terrorists have breached the lab sectors! They're looting research data and experimental files!"
"Another team is heading this way," the man added, trembling. "It looks like they're coming for the board!"
"What?! What are the security guards doing?!" Moss's legs nearly gave out. "Quick! Get me to the roof!"
The roof held the corporate helicopters, which offered a safe escape for the executives. The directors scrambled toward the elevators, desperate to save their own skins.
Harry slammed his fists onto the table. "So now even outsiders think they can walk all over Oscorp?!"
His secretary screamed in terror beside him. "Chairman... Chairman, we have to go! If the terrorists reach this floor..."
"Let's go!" Harry realized he had no way to fight back here. All his specialized gear was elsewhere.
"Yes, sir!" The secretary was relieved. As his personal assistant, she would be on that helicopter with him.
The 20th Floor
"AAAGH!"
A female employee was slammed onto a desk by a masked man. He brought the butt of his rifle down hard, ending her screams permanently.
"Don't waste time!" the leader of the terrorist squad barked. "If those board members escape, the Boss is going to take his frustration out on us!"
"Copy that, Captain!"
