Chapter 223: Mike's Bold Guess
"Oh no, Little Seven is no match for them." Jenny hugged her teddy bear tight and cried out in anxiety. She wanted to call Little Seven back.
However, Little Seven was currently pinned down by five Squid Ninjas and couldn't even perform the technique to enter the Shadow Kingdom.
"I'll help Little Seven." Matthew forced himself to endure the pain, picked up a police baton from the ground nearby, and struck at the Squid Ninjas.
The Squid Ninjas turned their heads quickly, and an extra tentacle reached out to stop Daredevil.
The police baton in Daredevil's hand was not a sharp weapon and could not break through the Squid Ninja's tentacle; instead, the tentacle wrapped around the baton, restraining his movements.
"I gave you a chance, little girl." Kezli didn't mind killing this young girl who could have potentially become an ally.
"I won't accept a chance from a scoundrel." Jenny's panicked expression suddenly turned into a smile as she said, "Let me show you a big fellow."
"Roar!" A massive creature over ten meters tall appeared.
Boom! Bang! The ceiling of the police station was instantly smashed through by Little Five. The police station, which originally looked very large, appeared cramped in front of Little Five.
"Not good! This place is about to collapse!" Matthew shouted, listening to the structural sounds.
Kezli was startled to see this ten-meter-tall Shadow-Eater Ninja; he couldn't believe there was such a large member of the Shadow Corps.
"I won't play with you today; let's do this again next time!" Kezli stopped worrying about Daredevil and the others, diving into the Shadow Kingdom to flee.
The five Squid Ninjas released Little Seven and followed Kezli away.
"Hey! Your boss is gone, can you let me go!" John felt like he could no longer breathe.
The Squid Ninjas looked at each other, decisively released John, and dove into the Shadow Kingdom themselves.
"We need to run, Jenny!" Daredevil picked up Jenny and prepared to run out.
Unexpectedly, Little Seven directly bit onto Matthew's clothes and pulled them into the Shadow Kingdom for refuge.
"They slipped away fast." John lay on the ground, gasping for air; he had almost been killed by the Squid Ninjas.
"What are you standing around for!" Mike appeared at some unknown time and dragged John out of the police station by his legs.
As for the colleagues lying on the ground, Mike expressed he was powerless to help; dragging one John was already the limit of his strength, and it was impossible to save everyone.
"F***! From now on, issue a full-scale warrant for Kezli. Shoot him on sight no matter what!" Outside, the Director looked at the collapsed police station and immediately thought of Kezli as the culprit.
Poor Kezli was taking the blame for Jenny, but even if Kezli hadn't destroyed the police station, he would still be fully wanted by the Director; after all, he was the first to dare to hang the Director up and hit him.
"S***!" The Director couldn't vent his anger and kicked a nearby police car. After this incident, he was bound to be criticized by his superiors and might even be demoted.
"Director!" Mike dragged John over to the Director, his face covered in filth.
Mike had rubbed this on himself on the way over; if the Director found him looking too clean, he would surely take his temper out on him.
"Lieutenant Mike? Where did you go?" Sure enough, the Director was about to burst into a rage, but seeing the filth on Mike, he asked with some confusion.
"Report! I was tangled with a black monster in the back. Unfortunately, the monster was too strong; I couldn't defeat it and could only keep circling with it." Mike had already thought of his excuse.
"Hmm." Hearing Mike's explanation, most of the Director's anger dissipated. The strength of the monsters was obvious to all, and he didn't expect a regular person like Mike to defeat one.
The Director took a bottle of water from a subordinate and asked, "Lieutenant John is alright, right?"
"I'm fine, Director. I just feel a bit short of breath and need to rest." John didn't want to move at all right now; he had no strength left.
"Take Lieutenant John to the police car to rest." The Director waved his hand. He was very grateful to John; if not for John, his life would have been lost, so this time he would help John get promoted regardless of his own position.
Mike raised an eyebrow at this; he knew his partner John was likely getting a promotion. Mike wasn't worried, though; he had a secret weapon that would surely earn him praise as well.
Matthew's Home
"Is this my house?" Matthew touched his familiar sofa, feeling incredulous.
"Little Seven and the others can go anywhere at any time and can take us along," Jenny explained.
Jenny was still too young to open the Shadow Kingdom herself and could only teleport away with the help of the Shadow-Eater Ninjas.
"Was that big monster just now Little Five?" Matthew remembered Little Five being only the size of a fist. How did it suddenly become so large and destroy the police station?
"I'm not sure." Jenny actually knew why Little Five became larger, but she couldn't say, otherwise Uncle Matthew would surely object.
Furthermore, through the shadows Little Five absorbed, she could now create five more small Shadow-Eater Ninjas.
"Truly wondrous creatures." Matthew could only judge the shape and size of the Shadow Corps through sound, but he couldn't perceive their color.
The Shadow Corps' bodies had no temperature and felt soft to the touch.
Police Station
"Whew~ Sorry buddy, I might be a bit late." Mike took a puff of his cigarette and spoke next to John.
John was currently lying on the seat in the back of the police van and said, "It's fine, Captain. It wouldn't have been much use even if you came."
"..." Although Mike knew John was telling the truth, it felt awkward to hear.
"But where is your secret weapon, Captain?" John remembered the secret weapon Mike mentioned earlier.
Mike's soot-covered face broke into a grin, revealing a row of bright white teeth. "It's this."
Mike pulled a small black device from behind his waist and said, "The power of this little thing is very great."
"What is it?" John asked in confusion.
Mike said, "Those monsters don't seem to fear physical attacks, so we'll try an energy attack and see if it's effective against them."
"Energy attack? Does this little thing have that much power?" John was skeptical.
"Of course. Do you remember the last alien invasion?" Mike reminded him.
"Alien invasion? Could this be an alien..." John seemed to have guessed what was in the Captain's hand.
"Yes, and it's an improved and enhanced version. Some of my old friends know how to upgrade these little gadgets," Mike said.
Mike's true identity was actually a member of a classified unit. Unfortunately, due to various incidents, the once-fearless young man had turned into a middle-aged man who feared death.
It was John who reignited the flame in Mike's heart. He plucked up the courage to contact his old friends from the unit.
The old friends were happy to see Mike regaining his confidence. Facing Mike's request, they agreed without a second thought.
"Next time we encounter Kezli, we must capture him," Mike laughed.
"It's best to knock him unconscious, otherwise he'll just vanish," John added. The Shadow Kingdom was essentially a perfect tool for escaping.
Mike nodded. John stretched beside him, and Mike's eyes narrowed as he saw a black tattoo on John's waist.
Previously, that man Kezli seemed to have a similar black tattoo on his arm.
"Hey~ John, when did you get a tattoo on your waist? It looks pretty good. Can you tell me which tattoo shop it's from?" Mike asked nonchalantly.
"Tattoo?" John pulled up his shirt and said, "I'm not sure. After I gained my abilities, this appeared on my body."
"Is that so?" Mike saw that John didn't show any signs of a guilty conscience, so he said, "Did you know? Kezli has this tattoo on his arm too."
"Kezli has one too?!" John stood up in shock, which immediately aggravated his wounds.
"Hiss~" John frowned and sat back down.
Mike began to analyze calmly, "I'm thinking about something, John."
"What is it?" John asked.
"John, do you think..." Mike looked into John's eyes and said, "Could you also summon those black monsters?"
"Why would you say that, Captain?" John was confused.
"Because the little girl who appeared at the end also had a tattoo on her back..."
