Chapter 56 - Building a New Home

"Yes, yes! I have lice too. It itches so badly."

"I want to exchange some for my cub."

"I do not have bugs, but I heard your sulfur soap cleans extremely well, so I wanted to try it."

Hayoon brought out the remaining sulfur soap and divided it among them while also explaining the precautions for using it.

As for payment, since she had not yet organized all the supplies needed for building a house, she mostly traded for preserved foods like honey blocks that were easy to store.

Everyone readily agreed.

After thanking Hayoon repeatedly once again, they happily left with their sulfur soap.

Not long afterward, another group of people arrived wanting to trade for sulfur soap as well.

When they heard it had already all been exchanged away, they reacted with deep regret.

"Damn it! We came too late!"

"Seriously. If I had come before dinner, I could have gotten some. Who moved so fast?"

"Hayoon, when are you making another batch of sulfur soap? My cub keeps complaining all day that his body itches."

Looking at the situation, Hayoon realized that news about the sulfur soap had probably already spread throughout the entire tribe.

The beastmen and sub-beastmen who came here all had healthy adults in their households and lived fairly comfortable lives, so they were willing to trade supplies for sulfur soap.

Those whose living conditions were not as good usually chose to shave off their fur instead.

Hayoon thought things over for a moment before raising her hand to calm everyone down. "Tomorrow morning I need to clear land first. Wait until the afternoon, and I will go collect more sulfur ore. Do not worry, everyone will get some. Oh, right. If you only want it for cleaning dirt, then ordinary soap is enough. There is no need to add sulfur. I can make some tonight."

"That is great! Then we will wait for you!"

"I want the regular soap!"

"Clear land? Did you already decide where to build your house?"

Hayoon smiled and nodded. "Yes. I already picked the location."

Over the past few days, whenever she had free time, she had taken Haeun around nearly the entire tribe.

Although she had never personally built a house before, she had lived in the countryside in the past and knew a little about choosing a proper location.

Terrain, land shape, soil quality, water access, sunlight direction.

There were many things to consider.

For example, building too close to a slope could risk landslides.

If the soil was too loose, the house could collapse easily.

And since this world had no running water, living too far from a water source would make fetching water extremely troublesome.

After several days of searching, she had finally chosen the place she liked best.

Once everyone heard her mention the new house, they nearly forgot all about the soap and began asking curiously instead.

"Where did you choose?"

The anticipation for her future home made Hayoon smile brightly.

"It is over there," she said while pointing ahead.

The thick green grass swayed gently in the wind while several large trees stretched out their branches and grew wildly.

Everyone shaded their eyes with their hands and looked into the distance as they commented one after another.

"Over by those trees? That is really close to Minho's cave."

"Why did you choose that spot?"

"I did not expect such an open area. But I guess houses are different from caves. You do not need to carve into a mountain after all. Haha."

Hayoon answered their questions one by one.

"Yes. The trees can stay behind the house to block some sunlight. The terrain and soil there are both good, and it is also close to a water source. There is plenty of open land nearby, so I can fence off a few vegetable gardens and build a livestock shed too. Although I have not fully planned everything yet."

Since the chief had already given permission, she could develop the place however she wanted, so there was no need to rush.

Besides, the location was actually more than a thousand meters away from Minho's cave.

It only felt close because everyone's beast forms were so enormous.

When she and Haeun moved there in the future, they would not disturb Minho at all.

And whenever she made something delicious to eat or drink, she could still invite him over to try it.

The more Hayoon thought about it, the more satisfied she became with her choice of location.

After hearing her explanation, several people present immediately said, "I am not going hunting tomorrow morning anyway. I will come help you clear the land."

"Yeah. If we use our beast forms, the work will go very quickly."

Hayoon had already lived in this world for quite a while, but she still was not fully used to how simple and warm-hearted everyone was.

Feeling embarrassed, she said, "Haeun and I can work slowly ourselves. As long as the house is finished before winter, it will be fine."

"That would take way too long. It is settled then!"

Hayoon scratched her head and decided to simply follow the local customs. "Alright then. I will prepare food for everyone."

Everyone waved their hands dismissively. "No need to go through so much trouble. We are leaving now. See you tomorrow!"

Without giving Hayoon any chance to stop them, the group quickly dispersed in a noisy crowd.

Watching their backs as they left, she smiled helplessly and shook her head.

That night, after making another batch of ordinary soap, Hayoon finally went to sleep.

Because they were thinking about clearing the land, not only Hayoon but even Haeun who loved sleeping in woke up very early.

As for Minho, there was no need to mention him.

Hayoon had never seen him sleep late before.

Outside the cave, the wilderness was covered in thick white mist.

Minho chopped firewood, Haeun lit the fire and boiled water, while Hayoon first went to check on the two Bubalo.
