Sarafina POV
Something is wrong. I don't know what it was or when the feeling started.
Maybe last night, maybe the moment I heard that voice, maybe the moment I realized I couldn't read Alistair's mind.
Or maybe, It's been wrong since the moment we stepped into this town.
I walk beside Lyra, the morning air cool against my skin, but it does nothing to settle the unease curling in my chest.
"I don't like it here anymore," I say quietly.
Lyra glances at me, surprised. "That's… a fast switch. Yesterday you were actually okay with staying."
"I know." That's what bothers me.
"I just…" I exhale, shaking my head slightly. "Something feels off. Not obvious or dangerous in the way we're used to. But… wrong."
Lyra studies me more carefully now. "Is this about the training?"
"…Partly." I hesitate.
Then I lower my voice.
"And Cassian and Alistair."
That gets her attention.
"What about them?"
"I think they're hiding something from us."
