Chapter 131 - War of Faith: Part 61

The forest grew quieter as the sun began to set.

Shadows stretched long across the ground.

The air cooled.

And for the first time since the war—

There was no immediate danger.

They stopped near a small clearing.

A stream ran quietly nearby.

Clean water.

A place to rest.

Goro nodded once.

"…We stay here tonight."

No one argued.

They needed it.

Yui moved toward the stream, washing the dirt and blood from her hands.

Akari sat on a fallen log, silently checking her weapon.

The Enforcer leaned against a tree, eyes half-closed.

The Watcher stood still, as always watching everything.

And Hiroto Sat alone near the edge of the clearing.

The sound of the water was calm.

Too calm.

He looked down at his reflection.

For a moment He barely recognized himself.

"…I almost died."

Saying it out loud made it real.

No battle noise.

No adrenaline.

Just truth.

Heavy footsteps approached.

Goro sat beside him.

Not too close.

Not distant either.

"…You're thinking too much."

Hiroto let out a quiet breath.

"…I wasn't enough."

Goro didn't respond immediately.

Then—

"…You're alive."

Hiroto shook his head slightly.

"…That's not the same."

Goro's gaze sharpened.

"…It is."

A pause.

Then he added—

"…Because dead men don't get stronger."

Silence.

Hiroto looked at the water again.

"…When I faced it…"

"…I felt it."

"…The difference."

Goro didn't ask what he meant.

He already knew.

"…Good."

Hiroto frowned slightly.

"…Good?"

Goro nodded.

"…Now you understand."

"…There's always something stronger."

That truth settled heavily.

But it didn't break Hiroto.

Goro stood up slowly.

"…That's why you train."

"…That's why you survive."

"…And that's why you don't rush your growth."

He looked down at Hiroto.

"…You want to win next time?"

Hiroto's grip tightened slightly.

"…Yeah."

Goro's voice hardened.

"…Then earn it."

As Goro walked away Hiroto remained there.

But something inside him had shifted.

Not doubt.

Not fear.

Clarity.

Hiroto slowly stood up.

Still injured.

Still recovering.

But steadier than before.

He looked at his reflection one last time.

"…Next time…"

His voice was calm.

Resolved.

"…I won't hesitate."

Behind him—

The group rested.

The war behind them.

The future ahead.

Uncertain.

But inevitable.

To be continued…
