Alice's POV
The hundred million dollar check sat on our kitchen counter for three days before I could even bring myself to touch it. Every time I walked past it, I felt like I was looking at something that didn't belong to me.
"We should deposit it," Bryan said on the fourth morning as he was making coffee. "Alice leaving it there isn't going to make the decision any easier."
"I know, but it feels wrong," I admitted sitting down at the table. "Bryan, my father was never there for me my entire life and now he's trying to buy forgiveness with money."
"Maybe he's not trying to buy anything," Bryan suggested. "Alice, maybe this is just the only way he knows how to show he cares."
"Or maybe he feels guilty," I said. "Bryan either way I don't know if I can accept it."
"It's a hundred million dollars," he pointed out. "Alice, that's enough to set up our kids for life, you could put it in trust funds for all of them."
