Chapter 296 - Chapter 300: It’s a Busy Month, Everyone is Getting Married!

"How I Met Your Mother" was Eric's youthful memory, and after "friends," it was one of the best sitcoms.

The fact that it ran for nine seasons in itself speaks to the show's excellence, although it can't compare to legendary shows like "friends" or "The Office."

And it even had a bad ending. Eric still remembers chasing the final episode back then, seeing the Mother appear and then immediately die, and Ted and Robin getting back together.

It felt like being doused with a bucket of hot water in the middle of summer, his whole body red-hot and about to explode!

I followed you for several years, and this is what you show me in the end?

Even if they couldn't continue the story, they shouldn't have been so perfunctory. What was wrong with letting Robin and Barney live happily ever after?

Did they really have to force Ted and Robin together? There were many viewers who shipped Barney and Robin. Did Americans have a first-love complex too?

Anyway, when he saw the last episode, it really infuriated Eric. He was so angry he called his friends out for drinks to vent.

The ending of "The Big Bang Theory" was also rushed, but at least it wasn't bad. Rushed and bad are two different concepts!

But no matter what, it still left Eric with countless beautiful memories, and it left Wang Yuan and Wei Zheng with endless material to plagiarize.

"iPartment," truly lives up to its name!

Standing up from his chair somewhat excitedly, Eric hugged Judy and kissed her fiercely, leaving her looking confused.

She wiped her lips with a hint of disdain: "Bastard, what's wrong with you? Are you going crazy? Then we'd better get married quickly; I can get a share of your assets."

"Go away, go away, you jinx! I'm just happy, that's all."

"It seems this show really moved you, but you only saw a name. Can you really judge its quality just from that?"

"Of course, sometimes good things only need a name, and these eyes have extraordinary judgment, capable of seeing through many things."

"Then why didn't you stop me from bringing Bar Refaeli back?"

"Uh…"

"So MGM plans to invest? I have to warn you, our model is different from TV stations."

"Lionheart Network doesn't do pilot episodes. If it's on, it's for a whole season. There's no going back, so you'd best review the script thoroughly. After all, it's an investment of tens of millions."

Eric thought it made sense. What if it was just a very immature script? The better the project, the more seriously it should be treated.

"You're right, Judy Newhouse, you truly are my goddess of luck, always bringing good things at crucial moments."

"Then you should give me a raise."

"No problem, your year-end bonus will be much, much, much, much more than anyone else's."

"Hmph! Empty promises! I don't need you to give me a bonus. I'll fight for what I want myself. If there's nothing else, I'm leaving."

"Get out."

Hmphing, Judy turned and left. At an angle Eric couldn't see, her fingers brushed over the spot where she had been kissed, then she opened her mouth and licked it.

The taste, it seemed, wasn't bad.

The second season of "the walking dead" exploded upon its release, with consistent audience praise: it was exciting and thrilling.

Especially with the addition of the Governor, the main group faced a dual threat from zombies and humans, constantly surrounded by danger, and that high level of tension lingered with fans.

Moreover, amidst intense conflict, the show also managed to balance character development.

For example, Carol started the first season as a tearful victim of domestic abuse, finally bravely picking up a weapon in the last few episodes. By this season, she had already bravely joined Rick's assault team.

Carol became more and more like a fierce female warrior; the woman who once only knew how to cry was gone forever.

The reunion of Daryl and his brother Merle was even more poignant; to protect his younger brother, Merle sacrificed himself.

Darabont didn't use a whitewashing approach; Merle was still not a good person, but it showed the complexity of his character.

Carl was growing, Glenn was growing, everyone was growing.

Even Lori and Andrea, two women who often dragged their feet, didn't receive uniformly bad reviews, except for one character.

Maggie was affected by Bar Refaeli; there was no death scene filmed, it was only mentioned through Glenn that she was hit by a stray bullet and died.

As for whether Glenn would get a new love interest, that would have to wait until next season.

IMDb scores were already out, and a score of 9.5 would certainly drop as more people rated it, but it would never be low.

The time came to early September, Friday.

Eric had three invitations in front of him. The first invited him to a wedding, Nicky Hilton's wedding, Paris's sister.

Eric had met the sisters many times and knew they were quite wild, promiscuity being commonplace.

So looking at this invitation, he had a feeling of "are you kidding me?"

Moreover, Nicky Hilton was 21 this year, and her husband was 33, a bit of a large age gap.

However, to get a young wife a full cycle older, this man named Todd Meister naturally had some skills; he was considered an elite, working on Wall Street, with a certain reputation and prestige in the financial world.

For both public and private reasons, he had to attend this invitation, but choosing a female companion was a bit troublesome.

The second invitation was also for him to attend a wedding, the bride being many Chinese people's childhood goddess—Britney Spears.

She would marry her dancer in the middle of the month. The groom wasn't old, only 22, but they were a bit mismatched in social status.

The wedding would only invite some close relatives and friends, a private affair.

When he received this invitation, Eric's idea of pursuing Britney vanished. He had originally thought of using the opportunity to write a song for her to try something, maybe there would be a chance, but now he thought against it.

He considered himself not a good person, but he wasn't so scummy as to poach a married woman.

Hmm, so the target shifts, punk girl Avril!

Speaking of which, there were quite a few celebrity marriages and breakups this year. Not long ago, Jennifer Lopez also married her new boyfriend; Ben Affleck still didn't make it to the end.

However, Ben Affleck didn't lose out; one Jennifer left, and now another Jennifer appeared by his side.

Although "daredevil" was terrible, his relationship with Jennifer Garner rapidly warmed up, and the two were now a devoted, inseparable couple.

Penelope and Tom Cruise broke up and she found a new boyfriend.

Usher and supermodel Campbell met their parents, and it was rumored they were getting married soon.

Big-mouthed beauty Julia Roberts gave birth to twins, radiating joy.

Elf princess Liv Tyler also had her own little elf, but unfortunately, it didn't belong to Human King Aragorn.

With new lives being born, old lives passed away. Godfather Marlon Brando died, and Superman Christopher Reeve also passed away.

The third invitation was for the Emmy Awards this month. Several Lionheart Network TV series were nominated for awards, but he wasn't too keen on attending.

Last year I attended out of respect for you, but this year I don't feel like giving that respect, and I'm sure you can understand.

These are outsiders; as for his own people.

Since Alan Hassenfeld was driven out, Eric became the chairman of the board, and Sergei truly experienced the feeling of holding real power.

And the first thing he did, without a doubt, was get a divorce.

The couple had always gone their separate ways, initially without incident, but he had been planning for a long time and had already hired a private detective to obtain evidence of his wife's infidelity.

Under a series of threats and coercion, he paid a sum of money and successfully divorced, and now he had openly brought Kate Winslet into his home.

The two were preparing for their wedding, expected to be next month, and Eric and Theron were both to attend.

They were, to put it nicely, matchmakers; to put it less nicely, pimps, but this pimping was very successful.

After more than half a year of construction, the Hudson Theatre finally completed its renovation and was about to officially open to the public.

In addition to the renovations, the types of plays had also made significant progress with MGM's copyright support.

"frozen," as the most popular movie currently, also launched a stage play version, and Zhou Wenqiong invited Eric to attend the opening ceremony.

Little Liu also called him to go together, aunt and niece.

In the evening, ArcLight Cinema, the premiere of "marley & me."

Although it wasn't a big investment, the female lead was Rachel Jennifer Aniston, and Eric was very happy to attend.

As Aniston's first big-screen work after leaving "friends," Lisa Kudrow, who played Phoebe, and Matt LeBlanc, who played Joey, also came to support her.

However, her husband, Brad Pitt, did not appear. The reason was simple: the media had photographed Pitt allegedly having an affair.

Not long ago, on the set of "mr. & mrs. smith," Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie sparked a romance.

Although the media had no hard evidence and the two had publicly clarified, it still caused a huge stir.

As a transmigrator, Eric of course knew this was true, and Jennifer Aniston apparently knew it too; it seemed their divorce was not far off.

But facing the cameras and her friends, she still maintained a smile.

Eric hugged Aniston and comforted her, saying, "Jennifer, don't mind those unhappy things. 'marley & me' will open a magnificent prelude to your big-screen conquest."

Aniston, with her beautiful big eyes, asked, "Do you think the box office will be magnificent?"

"That's right, heartwarming animal movies have always been a very popular genre. We can do it."

"Hehe. I'll take your word for it. If the movie's box office is really good, that would be one of the few good things recently, and I should be able to get more resources."

"I also have a script that might suit you. I'll show it to you later."

"Why later? Can't it be now?"

"Jennifer, I was considering that you'll be doing promotions for the movie, and then at least taking a month off."

Aniston quickly shook her head: "No, no, no, I just want to work now. Work will make me feel fulfilled and make me forget other things."

"Oh," Eric understood. It seemed she was still very sad.

The plot of "marley & me" was not complicated. A young couple, shortly after marriage, decided to have a child.

However, fearing they lacked experience to cope with a child, they decided to start by caring for a puppy.

Having heard that Labrador Retrievers were relatively obedient and easy to care for, the dog Marley entered their family.

But unexpectedly, Marley was incredibly mischievous, even more troublesome than a husky, the little expert at tearing things apart.

It barked wildly when its owners slept, defecated when its owners ate, and tore up the house when its owners went out.

Watching the couple on the big screen being exhausted by Marley, especially the scene where the dog swallowed the engagement necklace, cheerful laughter periodically echoed through the cinema.

Just when the audience thought it was a joyful farce, the female owner had a stillbirth. Marley, seemingly understanding human emotions, transformed from boisterous to quiet, silently staying by its owners' side.

But the neighbors, one after another, accused Marley of being unlucky, claiming its mischief led to the owner's miscarriage. Fortunately, the couple held no grudge.

Subsequently, the plot progressed like real life, without too many dramatic ups and downs.

The female owner became pregnant again and finally successfully gave birth to two babies. Marley, at times, transformed into a home-wrecking expert, and at other times, into a loyal dog guarding the children.

Until the children gradually grew up, Marley also became old. One day, it suddenly disappeared, and when found, it was already on its last breath.

There's a saying that when dogs sense their time is near, they quietly leave on their own, not wanting their owners to see them die.

"Sir, its condition is very bad. Surgery is no longer possible. It's too weak; it might not make it through the night."

"What! That's impossible. What you're saying only applies to ordinary dogs. You don't know how strong Marley is."

"It once ate an entire walkie-talkie, swallowed whole, and it watched over my sick son for nine hours, always faithfully guarding the child."

"Marley is a warrior; it will definitely pull through."

With its owner's encouragement, Marley still managed to stand up, but its aging body was no longer what it once was.

It could no longer tear up the house, no longer bark wildly, only slowly follow its owners on walks.

Until half a year later, the dog finally closed its eyes.

The family buried it in the yard, and the female owner took off the engagement necklace that Marley had once swallowed, burying it with him in the grave.

Unbeknownst to them, the hour-plus movie had reached its end.

As they watched the family gathered around Marley's grave, the audience felt a mix of emotions.

This feeling wasn't the same kind of sadness as in "Quill" or "Hachi: A Dog's Tale," but rather a bit of sadness mixed with more warmth, the warmth of life.

The dog and its owners together formed a warm family, portraying a heartwarming drama for everyone.

Seemingly ordinary, yet it deeply touched people's hearts.

This could be seen from the applause after the movie ended; the audience liked this style, they liked this movie.

Especially the line in the movie that left a deep impression.

"A dog may not be as valuable as a villa, a luxury car, or designer clothes."

"But, it doesn't care if you are poor, rich, smart, or clumsy. As long as you give your true heart, it will repay you with its true affection."

"I ask, in the vast sea of humanity, how many can do that?"
