Chapter 47 - 44: Shadows in the Morning Light

Chapter 44: Shadows in the Morning Light ☀️💞🖤

The golden sun spilled through the windows of Jay's penthouse, scattering across the marble floors and catching in Keifer's hair as he leaned over the kitchen counter. He was making pancakes — terribly, messily, adorably.

Jay stood by the doorway, arms crossed, trying (and failing) not to laugh. 😂

"Babe…" she said slowly, biting her lip to hold back a grin. "Are you trying to poison me or impress me?"

Keifer looked up with mock offense. "Excuse me? This is art, Jay. Love made it!" he declared dramatically, holding up a slightly burnt pancake like a trophy.

Jay burst into laughter, stepping closer. "Love made it? Love clearly forgot to use oil." 😏💖

He wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her close, flour smudged on his cheek. "You're laughing, but you'll eat it anyway because you love me."

Jay rolled her eyes but couldn't hide her smile. "Unfortunately, yes."

"See? That's commitment." 😌

They both laughed, their voices filling the quiet apartment. For the first time in forever, Jay's laughter wasn't guarded — it was free, bright, real. 💫

Keifer looked at her, eyes softening. "You know, seeing you smile like that… it makes everything else worth it. The fights. The chaos. The pain. All of it.

Jay blinked, feeling her heart melt. "You always say things that make me fall for you all over again."

"That's the plan," he whispered, leaning in and pressing a soft kiss on her lips. 🥺💋

The world felt perfect in that moment — quiet, safe, filled with love. But perfection never lasted long for them.

Just as Jay was about to reply, her phone buzzed again on the counter. The same unknown number flashed on screen. Her smile faded instantly.

Keifer's expression darkened. "It's them again, isn't it?"

Jay nodded slowly, hesitating before opening the message.

"I warned you, Jay. You shouldn't have brought him into this. See you soon — unless you want him gone before sunset." 😨

Her stomach dropped. The phone nearly slipped from her fingers.

"Jay…" Keifer reached for her hand. "What does it say?"

Jay's throat felt dry. "They're threatening you now."

His eyes hardened, all the warmth from moments ago replaced by fierce determination. "Let them come. I'm not leaving you."

"Keifer—"

"No." He stepped closer, eyes locked with hers. "We're in this together. They want to scare you — to make you run. But I'm not going anywhere." 🔥

Jay looked at him, her heart torn between fear and love. "You don't understand how dangerous this could get…"

"Then let me understand," he said softly, brushing her hair from her face. "Let me fight beside you, Jay."

Her chest ached. She wanted to protect him, but she also knew — she couldn't do this alone anymore. Not this time.

"Okay," she whispered finally. "Together."

Keifer smiled faintly, pulling her back into his arms. "That's all I needed to hear." 💞

Outside, the morning sun shone brighter — too bright, almost blinding — but in its warmth, a shadow moved across the street below.

A man in a black coat stood near Jay's building, phone in hand, smirking as he typed a message.

"You said forever, Jay? Let's see how long forever lasts." 🕶️📱

The notification buzzed on Jay's phone again, her hand tightening around it as she felt Keifer's arm around her waist.

Their love was real. Their danger was too.

And as the light poured into the room, Jay knew one thing — this was just the beginning. 🌅💔
