I didn't knew how long I sat there after he left, but the silence eventually became unbearable, since the birth I was scared of being alone in a dark place like this. They say empty mind devil's advocate & i won't be surprised if a devil actually pops up here, the walls already seem to have few rituals drwan, don't tell me I'm a sacrifice for his success, just then the dim lit bulb flicker and my i felt an electricity ran down my spine.
The dual gate of my cell was still locked.I moved toward the iron bars.I wrapped my fingers around the cold bars and leaned forward, trying to understand where I was.
I saw there was only one bulb in my room, the next one was on the right turn of the corridor that was after 5 similar cells away from my right side.
I noticed rusted number plates screwed above the latch of each identical cells.Meanwhile the corridor on the left side extended farther, vanishing into a thick, unmoving darkness that swallowed everything beyond it,there was no light to see where it has ended.I could not see the numbers of last two cells on the end of this line.
Twenty seven…
Twenty eight...
Twenty nine…
...
Thirty.
I was in the thirtieth cell.
No trace of sun, stilled wind, pin drop silence.
"Is anyone here?" I whispered. I didn't really expect an answer but I hoped for one.
"Please.."
I tried again & still found nothing.
As time ticked by i decided to find a way by myself although i din't knew where was i.I know people who brought before definitely tried & could have caught but I can't just sit back & this is me,no one else,if there's a 1% chance I had to get that 1% or else I'll be forever doomed.
In a basement this old..
This deep..
There had to be a passage & many faults.
I scanned everything.
There was CCTV but i knew these are to scare someone, how can be network flow in this dome.
And then I saw it.
A small square opening above my bathroom,a rusted grate in the wall, high, dusty, old. A forgotten chimney-like ventilation shaft. My heart pounded so loudly I feared someone would hear.
"That's it…" I whispered.
But it was far above my reach and small.
My eyes darted around until I found a wooden stool beside the bathroom. It scraped the floor loudly as I dragged it, and each sound made my stomach twist, but I didn't stop.
On the grate,I placed the chair which he had bound me earlier, then placed the stool on it,then placed my chair and climbed on.
The chair wobbled.
My knees nearly gave out from fear.
I reached up.My fingertips touched the cold metal.
I stretched higher, pushing onto my toes, grabbing my headpin and twisted the old screws. They groaned, old and loose.
Creaaak…
I caught one screw before it could fell. Then another.
I kept going until the last screw dropped on my hand.Dust rained over me when I pulled the grate free. I covered my mouth, coughing silently.
Behind it stretched a narrow, dark passage. Cramped. Dusty. But open. And full of the air I'd been following. It was only designed for air and light to pass in the bathroom. But as i guessed, for a slim person like me can easily get out through this.
I checked to know if there's anyone before pushing myself up.
My elbows got scrapped on the bricks. My feet found leverage. My hands gripped the old bricks. Inch by inch, I pulled myself inside, the cold air hit my face.
The darkness changed around me.I arrived directly to the outside of a big white mansion.
With a prayer,I began my running.
My pink flat mules slapped the ground, slipping on wet grass as the night swallowed me whole.Behind me,a shrill alarm blared, alerting everyone across the estate.
They found out. They found out I was gone.
The guards shouted that tored the silence.
"There! She's out! Stop her!"
I felt little pain in breathing. My legs ached because of the sedative effects. But adrenaline kept me moving. I sprinted across the wide field, eyes fixed on the shadowy line of the forest,i didn't wanted to enter there but i had less time to think as i was focused to not get caught but i knew animals are lenient than these horrible humans.
A car engine roared to life behind me. Headlights flashed over my back. I threw myself to the left as the vehicle sped forward, trying to cut me off.
"No--no, please--" I gasped through my teeth, forcing my legs to move faster.
Branches brushed my arms as I reached the forest edge and plunged inside. Darkness swallowed everything. The car couldn't follow between the trees, but the men could. And they did.
Their footsteps pounded the earth, getting closer & closer.
Luckily i saw a thicker bush & ducked into it, pushing myself low, holding my breath until my chest screamed. Leaves brushed over my skin. My heart thrashed so loudly I feared they would heard it.
Their voices drew nearer.
"Spread out!"
"She couldn't have gone far!"
"Check the bushes!"
I covered my mouth with my shaking hand as i reached the deeper alcove slowly.
For a second..just a second..I thought I might be safe.
My eyes followed to downwards. There was a little space among the bush, where the outside were not concealed by the vines & leaves. It wasn't enough to see what behind the bush, but enough for a mouse to enter.I sighed.Just then, someone's footsteps felt like coming towards here & i saw a pair of polished, expensive black shoes stopped facing towards me,as if the owner of this shoe can see me to through the bushes.
My blood turned to ice as i witness a yellow unknown snake,at the same time few ants stinging my skin as i remained unmoved,it was hard to keep your scream inside still I did that.
Yet,a hand reached down slowly, brushing aside vines and leaves.
His fingers curled around the greenery, lifting it.
My breath hitched.
Chestnut hair.
Unblinking honey brown eyes that was shining by the last bright red ray of the sun.Face too calm for the chaos around me.
He stared at me, and I knew I was done for.
Without asking anything,he just grabbed my wrist and yanked me out of the bushes with terrifying ease.
I stumbled, dirt streaked my knees, but he didn't loosen his grip.Instead,it grew tighter & I had no idea how to make excuses that may be let him have pity on me.
