Time flew by quickly. Three whole days had passed since the party ended.
Of course, during those three days, Bonanus had been doing productive things. No slacking off whatsoever.
As for what kind of productive things? She was earning karmic debt. Even though she had planned to slack off, rest, and have fun when she first arrived in Mondstadt.
But if you think about it, if a person already bought everything they wanted and did everything they wanted to do, what was left?
Bonanus wasn't the type to sit still. She always found something to do.
Even though she had made many friends in Mondstadt, those friends had their own things to do.
Take Noelle, for example.
Mondstadt's most famous busybody. She couldn't always go out and play with her. And shopping alone was pretty boring.
The only thing that could temporarily cure her boredom was earning karmic debt. It helped pass the time and kept her combat skills sharp.
Perfect, two birds with one stone.
...
Somewhere in Mondstadt
Inside a crumbling ruin
Bonanus stood with her hands on her hips atop a structure with a good view. She looked around bored, searching for enemies.
A lollipop hung from her mouth. Noelle had given it to her yesterday. It tasted pretty good, like grapes.
"Come to think of it, have I been too aggressive? I can't find any enemies." With the lollipop in her mouth, her words came out a little muffled.
Her karmic debt efficiency over the past three days had been incredibly high. Kill on sight, fight on sight. Even the smarter monsters started running when they saw Bonanus.
Especially those Abyss Mages. Every time they saw her, it was like they'd seen a ghost. They would flee like mad, afraid that if they were even a second late, they'd lose their lives.
"Really. If only the monsters would come to me like before."
Bonanus shook her head lightly. Because of Stormterror, the monsters had become bolder. Especially the dangerous Hilichurls.
They built camps near Mondstadt's towns and launched attacks, harassing the settlements. It was a huge headache for the Knights.
Especially the merchants. They were probably the most stressed of all. Money was their lifeblood.
The merchants of Mondstadt were practically bleeding Mora. A large portion of their shipments were intercepted by Hilichurls. The merchants' blood pressure was through the roof.
Even though the patrols often rescued the goods and transport personnel, the goods were either ruined or damaged, so they couldn't be sold for much.
For Mondstadt, the monsters around the city created an atmosphere of tension. But for Bonanus, it was perfect.
Think about it. There was karmic debt right at her doorstep. She didn't have to travel far to find enemies. Sometimes they even came to her. How great was that?
But ever since Bonanus showed up, the monsters around Mondstadt had been thinning out. The number of attacks on the city had dropped significantly.
In just three days, the monsters had become much more docile. They must have learned their lesson.
The mastermind controlling those monsters wasn't stupid. There was this crazy woman who would kill any monster she saw. All the monsters they had gathered were almost wiped out.
"System, if I keep this up, will Teyvat run out of monsters?" Bonanus asked curiously, her arms crossed as she scanned for prey.
[The host would need to solve the root cause. Otherwise, monsters will never be eliminated.] The system's electronic voice responded flatly.
"Ah~ how boring. I wonder where all the Hilichurls went. They were so aggressive before. After being crushed three or four times, they stopped coming."
Bonanus grumbled. Thinking about it reminded her of something annoying.
During the Knights' battles against the monsters, Bonanus was always there. Her graceful combat movements always caught the attention of many knights.
In their eyes, this beautiful lady always charged ahead, using her powerful elemental abilities to defeat many enemies.
She helped the Knights solve a lot of problems and reduced unnecessary casualties.
With her striking looks and contributions, this merchant from Liyue Harbor quickly gained considerable prestige in Mondstadt.
If not for her identity as a Liyue merchant, the Knights of Favonius would have wanted to give her an honorary knighthood.
She even became some people's dream girl. Some knights even wrote her love letters. Those letters always made Bonanus scrunch up her face.
For someone who was terrible at romance, she really didn't know how to handle this problem. Simply put, she didn't know how to politely decline.
"My heart belongs only to Xiao..." Bonanus muttered.
Just as she finished speaking, she felt a familiar presence approaching. She sighed softly. She knew who it was.
Who else could it be but Venti?
"Yo, there you are. I've been looking everywhere for you." Venti appeared and waved at her with a smile.
Seeing him, Bonanus narrowed her eyes, crossed her arms, and asked suspiciously,
"What does the great Anemo Archon need? Did you run out of Mora for wine?"
"Of course not. I was bored, so I came to chat."
After saying that, Venti immediately found a comfortable spot to lean against, his hands behind his head, looking very relaxed.
"I don't have time to chat. I'm working." Bonanus shook her head. This drunkard never showed up for anything good.
"Don't be such a downer! Hey, are you sure you don't want to come work for me? It's very free here." Venti chuckled, looking at her expectantly.
There it is. This unreliable Anemo Archon, trying to poach Rex Lapis's people again.
"Come on. I have a contract with Rex Lapis. I can't join you." Bonanus sighed helplessly.
"Meaning if the contract expires, you'll come to me?" Venti's eyes sparkled. He had been watching Bonanus's work over the past few days.
Helping the people of Mondstadt eliminate nearby monsters, dealing with threats, and coordinating with the Knights to repel attacks. He had to admit, this talented woman made him want to steal her from the old man.
Such a high-quality tool made his slacking and lazing time much more pleasant. He envied the old man.
"You're overthinking this. Rex Lapis will send you flying if he finds out." Bonanus rolled her eyes at him. She would definitely tell Rex Lapis about this when she returned to Liyue.
"That old fossil always has a cold face. So boring. Last time I visited him, I had to pay for two bottles of wine." Venti continued.
"Hey, speaking of which... I know some interesting gossip about the old man's younger days. Want to hear it?" Just as Venti was about to ramble on, Bonanus raised her hand to stop him.
"Hush. I have work to do." Bonanus looked into the distance, her eyes lighting up. After searching for so long, she had finally found an enemy.
In her field of vision, a Ruin Guard wandered aimlessly. It was a soulless machine with immense combat capabilities. Extremely dangerous.
Its arms were very long, covered in strange runes, probably related to alchemy.
Bonanus didn't really know. All she knew was that defeating a Ruin Guard gave her a lot of karmic debt. That was what mattered.
A Ruin Guard was worth more than an Abyss Mage. An Abyss Mage gave 100 karmic debt. A Ruin Guard gave 200.
Why? Maybe because it was bigger, so it gave more?
Bonanus didn't bother thinking about it. She only knew one thing now: her prey was right in front of her. Time to strike.
