Chapter 52 - Chapter 52

"Hellsing, huh..."

I know that name a bit since I've seen that anime in my past life. It's an organization where there's that terrifying existence, right? A vampire who's basically a god with ridiculously OP powers.

Just to be sure, I decide to ask Mrs. Kiriko a curious question.

"What kind of organization is Hellsing Agency?"

Instead of answering me immediately, she points with her hand toward a nearby park that's empty and illuminated by some streetlights.

"Before we continue talking, why don't we take a short break there? It'll be more comfortable than standing here in the middle of the street."

I look at her curiously as she approaches and grabs me by the collar of my clothes, lifting me easily.

"Huh?! What are you doing?"

I ask surprised as my feet dangle in the air.

She shows a smile that reveals her two fangs. Mm... she's quite beautiful.

"It's because you hit me in the face before during our little fight. You even split my entire head open with your tentacles. You should be happy I'm not taking revenge for that in a more painful way."

Then the entire panorama around me becomes a blur.

—Fwoooosh!

In less than a second we're in the park.

'A vampire's speed is evidently much faster than a ghoul's. In fact, it even far surpasses mine...'

'Eh... Uhu!'

A strange idea crosses my mind.

'I wonder what will happen if I bite Mrs. Kiriko and drink her vampire blood.'

Well, she'd surely get extremely angry and kill me. So I'd better set that curiosity aside for now.

She releases me and says in a disappointed tone.

"You don't seem even a bit dizzy from the speed. Boring."

She gestures toward the wooden bench.

"Sit down."

We both sit on the bench. This park is empty at this hour of New Year's morning.

"Getting back to the main topic."

Kiriko says in a more serious voice.

"Hellsing Agency is an organization that remains secret from the general public for now. But it will probably be revealed to the world soon due to the increase in supernatural cases. Anyway, it's fundamentally a military organization that hunts dangerous vampires."

"Hellsing... An organization that hunts vampires."

So it's safe to conclude this is that organization from the anime I watched.

Kiriko nods and in a colder voice continues.

"In fact, they don't just hunt vampires. They also eliminate any supernatural being that threatens Britain's security. Not all supernatural beings, of course, since some work directly for them as employees. Like myself."

Hearing that I show a smile while looking at her.

"So am I also considered a supernatural threat, Mrs. Kiriko?"

She fixes her red eyes on mine without blinking.

"Currently you're just a powerful child who protects my daughter. That's why I'm making this deal with you and not reporting your existence to Hellsing. But that could change if you become a real problem or threat."

I shrug casually.

'This is reality.'

I mustn't have a naive mind or the stupid idea that this world is a fun anime.

But still, in some specific cases it can help me dimension things a bit and better understand the power scale.

For example, from what I remember of that anime, Hellsing has massive resources, extensive knowledge about the supernatural, and not to mention the military power they have completely surpasses the CCG and all ghouls combined.

They're a dangerous enemy I definitely want to avoid facing.

Then a question arises.

"If Hellsing deals with supernatural beings to ensure Britain's security, why are you here in Japan so far from your base?"

Mrs. Kiriko leans back comfortably against the bench's backrest while looking at the sky.

"I'm in Japan on an observation mission, if you can call it that. I've been tasked with monitoring the current situation to see if there are any vampires operating here and also investigating recent strange incidents Hellsing Agency has noticed."

She pauses before continuing.

"It's about those parasitic worms that infect living beings. Since I'm originally from Japan and have a family established here, they also allowed me to take a bit of an extended vacation. So this arrangement isn't bad at all."

I swing my legs on the bench since they don't reach the ground. I put both arms comfortably behind my head and turn my face toward Mrs. Kiriko.

"Is Hellsing also already aware of their existence? I see."

"Ara~ By asking that, you also know about them, huh? That's a surprise..."

Please, stop looking at me like that.

"But yes. Some of the agents have reported seeing green glowing spores falling from the sky. Then they investigated what those spores were and found out about the parasitic worms. Immediately the entire agency went on maximum alert."

"Do they know if this is happening worldwide or only in some countries?"

A dark cloud settles on Mrs. Kiriko's face.

"It's a global-level invasion. They're falling on all continents. They seem to come from outer space. Who knows what else could be out there."

She pauses while looking at me. In fact, I notice her eyes are directed at my hand behind my head.

"By the way... your hands with those blades remind me of the parasites' blades we've documented."

"Some interesting things have happened."

I respond that way without giving details. And Mrs. Kiriko doesn't press for more information either. She seems to respect my privacy in that regard.

"Ah, right! Why doesn't Hellsing intervene here if there are ghouls and parasites threatening the population?"

Mrs. Kiriko responds in a voice that sounds almost bored. From the frequencies she emits, I feel that for her the answer is quite obvious.

"Japan is 'CCG territory' by international agreements established many years ago. Hellsing only intervenes militarily in cases of confirmed vampires or supernatural threats coming from abroad into Japanese territory."

'Threats coming from abroad... Could she be referring to Millennium?'

It's an organization of artificial vampires that was shown in the anime.

At that moment I hear footsteps approaching from the park entrance.

They're people, and when I focus my sight I see they're several drunks staggering. Even from this distance I can see how they look at Mrs. Kiriko lecherously. Their eyes scan her body from top to bottom.

Damn them! She's my friend's mother... Ugh, it makes me want to slap them to death.

Mrs. Kiriko shows an expression of contempt on her beautiful face and shortly after gets up from the bench.

"We'll continue this chat another day when we have more privacy."

She says in a cold voice.

I get up too but before I can leave I ask her one last question.

"Why are you being so cooperative with me and telling me all this information?"

Her red eyes glow softly.

"Because I sense that sooner or later you'll cross paths with Hellsing in some inevitable way. And when that day comes, it's better that you're prepared for what you'll face."

She turns her back to me and begins walking toward the park exit. The drunks shout rudely for her to stop because they want to have fun with her.

She ignores them as if they were annoying insects.

"Ah, and one more important thing..."

She says without turning to look at me.

"If you ever need help or information, you can look for me. Your situation is quite special and even I'm curious. So if you want to know what you are, I can also help you investigate and understand your origin."

When the drunks stagger up to where she is, she disappears.

—Fwoosh!

The drunk men fall on their butts to the ground. Their faces turn pale as they scream terrified.

"It's a ghost! A damn ghost!"

They'll probably think tomorrow that it was hallucinations caused by alcohol, right?

One of them dropped a beer bottle that rolls until it stops near my feet. I see it's still unopened.

I grab it curiously and open it with my fingers. I bring it to my mouth and take a long drink.

I know it's illegal for children to drink alcohol. But honestly I don't care about that at all.

"Ugh!"

It tastes pretty bad.

One of the drunks gets up staggering and yells at me.

"Hey, brat! That bottle is mine!"

I look at him as I walk toward him. Then I pour all the remaining contents on top of his head.

—Splash!

"What the hell...!"

At the same time he starts his complaint I also disappear from the place using my explosive strength.

I laugh out loud while jumping between rooftops.

'Help me understand myself to know my true origin, huh...'

I think about Mrs. Kiriko's words as I run through the city.

But is trusting Mrs. Kiriko who belongs to Hellsing a risk or an advantage?

Leaving that aside for now, in the first place it's likely that even she won't know what I am even if she searches for information.

'At some point I'll know anyway on my own.'

So there's no need to think too much about it.

But now I have many more serious concerns knowing for certain that the world of Hellsing is mixed into this reality.

If I were to face them someday, without a doubt I'll be exterminated.

Especially with that secret living weapon they have. A vampire called Alucard.

I firmly decide one thing in my mind.

I must become much, much stronger. Exponentially stronger.

To protect myself and all my friends I care about, I'll devour everything in my path.

Ghouls, parasites, vampires, whatever.

They'll all be my food.

They'll all contribute to my evolution.
