Chapter 181 - Chapter 181: The Beast Awakens

Chapter 181: The Beast Awakens

*CRASH!

The sound of impact echoed across the battlefield as Ragnar's flaming body slammed into the mountainside. The white flames that had covered the sky flickered once, twice—and then vanished, as if they had never been.

Silence fell.

The Third Kazekage, moments from death, felt the oppressive heat suddenly lift. He gasped, sucking in air that was finally, mercifully, breathable again. His body, drained and dehydrated, began to fall from the sky.

"Suna—catch the Kazekage!"

A dozen Suna ninja surged forward, leaping and weaving through the dissipating heat waves. They caught their Kage before he could hit the ground, lowering him gently to the mud.

"Kazekage-sama! Are you alright?"

"Lord Kazekage! Speak to us!"

"Medical ninja! NOW!"

A team of Suna medics pushed through the crowd, their hands already glowing with emerald chakra. They worked quickly, efficiently, their diagnostic chakra sweeping through the Kazekage's body.

"Severe dehydration," the lead medic reported after a moment. "But no major internal injuries. With treatment, he will recover."

The Third Kazekage's eyes fluttered open. For a long moment, he simply breathed, feeling the cool moisture of the air against his parched skin. Then, slowly, he sat up.

"I'm… alive?" His voice was a croak, barely recognizable.

"You are, Lord Kazekage. The flames… they vanished."

The Kazekage's eyes widened as memory returned. The white fire. The dissolving sand iron. The certainty of death approaching. And then—

"What happened?" he demanded. "Why did the flames stop?"

No one answered. But every eye had turned away from him, fixed on something in the distance. Their expressions—the trembling, the panic, the raw fear—told him everything he needed to know.

He turned to look.

And his breath caught in his throat.

In the center of the battlefield, where Ragnar had stood moments ago, something else now occupied the space.

Something massive. Something wrong.

The Five-Tails Jinchuriki, Gōki, was no longer recognizable as human.

His body had transformed. The scarlet Tailed Beast cloak that had once covered him was no longer a coat—it had become his flesh. Chakra and human tissue had merged into something grotesque, something that straddled the boundary between man and monster. Five massive tails, each pulsing with violent energy, thrashed behind him. His face had twisted, features distorting into a bestial snarl.

He was no longer Gōki, the Jinchuriki.

He was becoming the Five-Tails itself.

"What… WHAT IS THAT?!" a Suna chunin screamed.

"A tailed beast! It's a real tailed beast!"

"It's out of control! The Iwa ninja lost control of their monster!"

"How could they bring something like this to a battlefield?!"

Nōhei stood frozen, his face ashen. This was the nightmare. This was what the Tsuchikage had always feared—the reason the Jinchuriki were kept isolated, controlled, suppressed. When the beast broke free, it didn't distinguish between friend and enemy. It destroyed everything.

"Gōki…" he whispered. "What have we done?"

In the Konoha camp, the mood was no less desperate.

Tsunade's eyes were fixed on the mountainside where Ragnar had vanished. The Five-Tails' chakra was so overwhelming, so violent, that it completely drowned out her sensory abilities. She couldn't feel him at all.

"Ragnar…" she breathed.

Hatake Sakumo had returned to the front lines, his expression grim. "This has gone beyond a mere battle. If that beast fully awakens, the entire Land of Rain could be devastated."

"How do we stop it?" Jiraiya demanded. "We don't have a sealing team here. We don't have Uzumaki chains. We don't have ANYTHING that can control a rampaging Tailed Beast!"

"There is one possibility," Orochimaru said slowly.

"What? Tell us!"

"The Uchiha clan." Orochimaru's serpentine eyes gleamed. "Legend has it that their founder, Uchiha Madara, once used his Sharingan to control the Nine-Tails itself. To enslave it. If we could summon their forces here—"

"Absolutely not." Tsunade's voice was sharp, final. "We know nothing about the extent of Sharingan control. If the Uchiha came here and found they could dominate the Five-Tails, what's to stop them from keeping it? From turning it into their own weapon?"

"Tsunade's concerns are valid," Sakumo agreed heavily. "That's precisely why I've kept them in reserve, watching for Rain ninja movements rather than committing them to the main battle. The risk is too great."

"Then we have nothing," Jiraiya said flatly. "No plan. No hope. Just… waiting to die."

Orochimaru's lips curved into his characteristic smirk, though it lacked its usual confidence. "Perhaps. Or perhaps we wait for a miracle."

"A miracle? You? Believing in miracles?" Jiraiya stared at him.

"Hah. Who says I believe?" Orochimaru's eyes flicked towards the mountainside where Ragnar had vanished. "But that one… he has a habit of providing them."

On the distant hilltop, even Madara had fallen silent.

The battle had shifted again. The Kazekage, saved by the beast's emergence. The boy, hurled into a mountain. And in the center, the half-formed Five-Tails, a creature of pure destruction.

"This is… interesting," Madara murmured. "The Jinchuriki is losing control. Soon, only the beast will remain."

"Can the Rakshasa survive that, Madara-sama?" Black Zetsu asked carefully.

Madara was silent for a long moment. Then, slowly, his ancient lips curved into a smile.

"Survive? Perhaps. But more importantly—will he rise?"

In the center of the battlefield, Gōki struggled.

His massive form twitched and convulsed, caught between human consciousness and bestial rage. The Tailed Beast Bomb he had begun to form—far larger and more powerful than the previous two—wobbled, then collapsed in on itself as he slammed his tails into the ground in apparent agony.

"Roar! ROAR!"

He clawed at the earth, tearing furrows meters deep. He threw his head back and howled—a sound that was part human scream, part animal bellow.

Somewhere, deep within the chaos of his mind, a single thought remained:

Hero…

I wanted to be a hero…

Why… why does it hurt so much?

The Five-Tails' chakra surged. His form expanded further. The human features were fading, replaced by something older, more primal, more hungry.

Soon, there would be no Gōki left at all.

Soon, only the beast would remain.

And on the mountainside, in the crater where he had been hurled, a figure made of fading flames began to stir.
