Kaydan turned toward Calverd, who was still holding Balden's headless corpse high in the air with his magic.
"Just bring that corpse down. We must immediately break through that formation and kill all the soldiers blocking our path before the royal assassins start making their move to hunt us down!"
Calverd's expression instantly tensed. He absolutely did not want the royal assassin squad to arrive and hinder their movement toward freedom.
If those assassins make their move, both him and I will definitely have a hard time getting out of here.
Calverd immediately lowered the commander's body roughly until it hit the ground with a thud, then jogged over to Kaydan's position.
Upon arriving beside the gray-haired youth, Calverd, who felt incredibly curious because he had not sensed the presence of his savior at all since they left the underground prison corridor, immediately whispered to Kaydan.
"By the way, where is the invisible man?"
"I also don't know where he is." Kaydan answered in a whisper, his eyes remaining alert and fixed ahead. "But I think my husband cannot move freely and openly right now."
The gray-haired youth glared sharply at the battlefield unfolding before him.
"If he directly intervenes to help us, the kingdom might figure out who the real mastermind behind this chaos."
The logical answer he had just heard instantly made the indigo-haired youth understand. Since earlier, he had not heard the invisible man's voice after they exited the prison.
"But I firmly believe that he will definitely protect the two of us from somewhere!" Kaydan continued without the slightest hint of doubt. "For now, let's get out of here ourselves!"
Hearing Kaydan's absolute conviction, Calverd felt that the invisible man must be watching over them from somewhere right now.
"Yes, you're right! Let's go!"
The two youths immediately charged into the battlefield to assist all the prisoners they had freed.
The synergy between the two youths was highly lethal. They killed the royal soldiers attempting to block them one by one by combining their respective magic.
When a group of soldiers tried to surround them, Calverd instantly used his telekinesis magic to lift the soldiers' bodies, making them float helplessly in the air. In that very second, Kaydan unleashed hundreds of sand grains compacted with an incredibly heavy gravitational mass.
The sand bullets immediately shot forward, piercing and penetrating the armor and bodies of the floating soldiers. Their corpses plummeted to the ground the moment Calverd released his control.
Kaydan and Calverd's presence on the front lines quickly drew the attention of the enemy forces. The soldiers who saw the two youths joining the fray and going on a rampage on the battlefield were utterly shocked.
"Wait... If those two prisoners are here, does that mean Commander Balden is dead?!" a soldier asked, his face turning pale upon witnessing his opponents' power.
"Pay it no mind!" another veteran soldier answered with a booming, hoarse voice, dismissing his comrade's panic. "We have been directly ordered to continue killing all these escaping prisoners so the commotion does not spread outside the palace! And as the proud soldiers of the kingdom, we are obligated to carry out that order to the very end, regardless of who has fallen!"
And what happened next was the remaining soldiers tightening their formation once again. They charged forward fiercely, attacking without fear to stop the rampage of the fleeing prisoners.
Kaydan and Calverd were undaunted. They welcomed attack after attack, mercilessly striking down all the soldiers pushing toward them.
However, this battle was not a balanced one for the other captives. Around them, the exhausted and starved prisoners were beginning to lose their footing. One by one, the escaping prisoners began to fall and perish, struck by the slashes of the soldiers' attacks.
All these royal soldiers are completely insane! Calverd said in his heart, holding back his tension as he parried an attack. Even though their commander died in such a gruesome way, their morale hasn't wavered in the slightest... as if the figure of the commander was of no importance to them.
"Let's get out of here!" Kaydan ordered loudly as he kept running and breaking through the enemy lines beside Calverd. "Keep moving forward without retreating until we grasp our freedom!"
The heroic command they had just heard seemed to act as fuel, reigniting their fading spirits.
To welcome a new hope, the remaining prisoners gritted their teeth and joined the charge, running behind the two youths while continuously attacking the soldiers trying to halt their steps.
The battle truly became increasingly mad. The vast palace courtyard was filled with screams, the explosions of various elemental magic, and the clanging of clashing metallic weapons.
There were many lifeless bodies lying on the ground.
Through bloody sacrifices, everyone kept running and sweeping through the front lines until they finally arrived in front of the palace gates.
The two towering gate doors stood as their one and only final obstacle.
Kaydan, standing in front of the gates, immediately concentrated mana into the palms of his hands to crush the giant iron doors before him using his gravity magic.
Screech....
The iron doors began to creak loudly, resisting Kaydan's gravitational pressure.
But, it only went that far. Their shape remained intact, and their hinges stayed firmly anchored.
Kaydan lowered his hands, panting heavily.
"Ah... damn it!" Kaydan cursed in annoyance and frustration, staring at his trembling hands. "My mana is no longer enough to destroy these gates!"
Hearing that confession, Calverd's face instantly turned pale.
"A-Are you serious?!" Calverd uttered in shock, his eyes widening in disbelief. "If you can't destroy these gates... then how are we supposed to get out of here?!"
"I am at a loss as well..." Kaydan sighed in resignation. His eyes reflected a dead end because his mana had truly reached its absolute limit.
In front of the sturdy main gates, the two formidable youths could do nothing. They were unable to destroy the gates that had blocked their final escape route.
Meanwhile, the sea of enemies behind them offered no time to breathe whatsoever. The entire royal army continued to flood the courtyard, surrounding the captives from all directions and tightly sealing off any access to escape. The soldiers kept attacking, stabbing, and slashing at the rearguard blindly and without mercy.
Seeing the increasingly critical situation, Calverd, with his remaining strength, immediately turned around and directly utilized his telekinesis magic brutally to help protect the prisoners in the back lines.
He blasted and hurled the bodies of the entire troop daring to push forward away from their group. However, the sheer number of the palace forces seemed endless.
Now, the fleeing group of prisoners was cornered at the palace gates with no way back. They were truly and totally surrounded from all directions.
The archers were in position, ready to shots, and the royal mages were primed with their magical attacks.
