Chapter 47 - I am done waiting

The morning light streamed through the tall windows, casting golden patterns across the stone floor. Samara sat at a small table in Caelion's chambers, a plate of fresh bread and fruit before her. She had not eaten properly in days. Now, she could barely taste anything.

Her mind was still spinning.

Engaged.

She was engaged to Caelion. The most feared man in the kingdom. The monster in human form.

And she had been the one to ask him.

Caelion sat across from her, his silver hair loose around his shoulders, a fresh black shirt hanging open at the collar. He watched her eat. He was not eating. He was just watching.

"You are staring," she said.

"Yes."

"Stop."

"No."

She looked up at him. His green eyes were soft. Not silver. Not gold. Green. Warm.

"You are not going to eat?" she asked.

"I am not hungry."

"You chased me across a forest, killed a beast, tortured a witch, and you are not hungry?"

His lips curved.

"I had breakfast already."

She frowned. "When?"
