Sylvia paced the living room, biting her fingers in restless anxiety. Lena was supposed to be back by now, yet there was no sign of her. The house felt unusually quiet, almost suffocating. She had called Lena's phone countless times, but there was no answer. Now it was switched off completely. Her heart pounded harder with every passing second.
She didn't even know where Lena had gone. The girl hadn't told her anything before leaving. Sylvia tried to calm herself, but the growing dread in her chest made it impossible. After several failed attempts to reach her, she finally decided to call the one person she had been avoiding for years, Liam.
Her fingers hovered over his number for a brief moment before she dialed. The call connected almost immediately.
For a second, she froze. Surprised that he was still using the same number after all these years, she forgot to speak.
