Lucian walked through the revolving doors of DOV Foods headquarters with a lie already prepared on his tongue;
Something about his neighbor. A jammed door that needed breaking down. It was an emergency that required his strength so he had stayed back to help.
The excuse was simple and believable, but the moment the elevator doors opened onto the executive floor, the lie evaporated...
Because the floor was too quiet. Too still. Not anything like before where Riley would be there already, flashing her smile and narrowing her curious eyes on anybody who walked through.
Lucian's eyes caught the inside of Rowan's office through the opened window.
Standing at the other window was Rowan, his back was to the door. And even from his back view, anybody could see the way tension had made his shoulders sagged slightly.
Lucian swallowed hard and walked into the office silently.
Rowan turned when he heard the door opened and their eyes met.
