Chapter 16 - To ending things

I flew off on the back of the owl, my hands clenched, thinking about my parents and how things ended in my first life with them. I promised them as they passed, I'd live a happy life, one day. I clenched my fists, trembling, and felt tears fill my eyes, and my vision grew blurry.

"Ugh!" I wiped my tears aggressively, trying to stop the tears from flowing. "Stupid!"

"Gia," Crystal's voice came from the owl. I knew she can posses the ice creations. So this wasn't a surprise. "I know you are thinking about your parents in the last life."

"I'm fine," I wiped my face with clenched fists. "Just, finally processing some things."

Crystal landed a distance away, the ruins of the battle between Crystal and the other demons against Palmia.

"Why did you bring me here?" I slid off Crystal's ice owl form. "You already told me what happened here."

"I told you a vague part of it," Crystal said, shattering the owl form and taking on a more human form, since she can't physically be here or take on her true human form. "I never told you the full extent of why it happened."

"What's the difference between the two?" I asked. "I already know you were only in that war because Palmia was obsessively in love with Chronos, and upset that he had been gifting his power to mortals."

"That wasn't the only reason, Gia," Crystal said. She turned to the remains and struck her arm up high; ice and snow swarmed us. I tensed up, watching this. Before us, Crystal showed me a set of young women, one with almost glowing white hair with this blue spotted shine here and there, her skin almost glowing. Beside her was a woman with layered hair with colors of fire, her skin torched brown. Behind them was an army of many demons, beside them was a man who looked ethereal. That must be Chronos, and the other two must be Crystal and Phoenix. "Palmia started the war because she was obsessed with Chronos, and because Phoenix and I refused to ascend as gods to join in her light."

I looked to Crystal, shocked by this.

"Before we could defeat her, she cursed Phoenix and me." Crystal continued to explain. "...I heard you and that Mano, you know. I heard everything."

I was going to say something, but nothing came out. She only looked at the memory ahead of her as the ice and snow surrounded us. The snow and ice showed her and Chronos, after she was cursed, watching me from this world. Right when the earthquake hit, Crystal took my soul through to this world. Chronos put my family's bloodline into this world's history. Then the snow and ice faded away.

"... why me?" I finally asked. "Why me out of thousands of others?"

"Because," Crystal began. "You have the heart that this world needs to heal from this mess."
