Viheral City's legend could no longer be verified, but there was no doubt that a brilliant civilization had once existed here, only to be destroyed suddenly for unknown reasons.
Every adventurer who had explored this place was convinced of that.
Even Sosk, the Thayan alchemist, had admitted that unknown treasures had indeed been left beneath the ruins, and that the Deck of Many Things had come from here.
Therefore, it could be inferred that beneath the vast Moonscar Basin lay buried historical secrets and treasure—perhaps dungeons, labyrinths, monsters, treasures, and the like.
That did not match the scene before him at all.
At that moment, the half-dragon had already leapt off the wyvern and landed on the ground, while the wyvern skimmed low across the earth before rapidly climbing, apparently trying to flee.
The four half-dragons spread out, several pairs of vicious eyes fixed on Anser as he dove down. In their half-open dragon maws, surging green breath could faintly be seen.
Anser spread his dragon wings and hovered in midair more than a hundred meters above them, denying them any chance to catch him in overlapping breath attacks.
Some of the adventurers below recognized him, but seeing his human body and dragon wings, they were somewhat uncertain.
Sergei, the vice president of the Hunter's Guild, saw Iris following behind him. His eyes lit up, and he immediately understood, his spirits rising.
Seeing that Anser was about to cast a spell, he hurriedly pointed at the collapsed traces along the edge of the pit and shouted, "Watch out for the cave-in!"
Durlag was the nearest human city to this place, and Sergei believed the human side had an innate advantage. If this place really collapsed, it would be far too much of a waste.
Anser glanced at him, ordered the air elemental to look for another opening, and then continued casting.
The flying elemental orb suddenly froze in midair and erupted with a flash of red light.
"ફાયરબોલકલા"
Metamagic: Empowered, Seeking + 5th-Ring Fireball!
After a brief pause, a bright flash shot down from his fingertip, heading straight for the tallest half-dragon in the middle.
Those half-dragons moved quickly and scattered in all directions, but the end of the flash changed course and exploded beside one half-dragon's waist.
Boom—
A massive red-yellow fireball blossomed like fireworks. Scorching flames drowned everything nearby, reducing all combustible material to ash.
The half-dragon struck by the blast surged out of the fireball, wreathed in flames. He growled and rolled several times in succession, finally putting out the fire on his body.
[...Half-dragon hit. Took 52 fire damage. Current Hit Points: 101/153]
The maximum damage of this Fireball should have been 71+, but the higher a monster's level, the stronger its resistance. Even if the spell's power was pushed to its utmost, it was impossible to deal full damage.
At this moment, the die used this opportunity to detect the target's information:
[Half-Green Dragon, Medium Dragon, Challenge Rating 9]
'Sure enough, he's a tough one,' Anser thought with a chuckle.
When encountering monsters in the wild, their strength could usually be judged by their size.
He descended slightly, raised a hand, and pointed. An invisible wedge-shaped ripple instantly stabbed into the half-dragon's head.
The half-dragon wailed and dropped to one knee in pain, one hand pressing hard against his temple, veins bulging, his eyes bloodshot.
[You cast Mind Sliver on the Half-Green Dragon. The Half-Green Dragon was hit. Intelligence saving throw failed. Took 12 psychic damage. Current Hit Points: 89/153]
'Huh, it's this useful?'
A tiny cantrip had actually left the half-dragon in terrible pain, and the damage had nearly reached the spell's limit.
He knew the half-dragon's weakest ability score was Intelligence, only around 10, and that it had no psychic resistance. That was why the idea had suddenly occurred to him, but he had not expected the effect to be so excellent.
Mind Sliver possessed the outstanding trait of psychic spells: it could not be dodged! Aside from enduring it head-on, there was no other way.
When he had first transmigrated, the original body's owner had died to a duergar's Mind Sliver.
'A bad brain can be a fatal weakness too.'
He chuckled, his movements never stopping. One Mind Sliver after another stabbed into the half-dragon's mind in succession. They were not quickened, but they were still astonishingly fast, giving the other party no chance to catch his breath.
Psychic attacks hurt down to the soul. The half-dragon trembled as he ran and stopped by turns, and several attempts to counterattack were interrupted. He only felt his mind growing increasingly muddled, to the point that he could not even think normally.
Anser was utterly relaxed.
Wasn't this the essence of battle? Kick the cripple in his bad leg!
On the other side of the battlefield, thunderclaps exploded one after another. The air elemental swung a long whip of colorful cloudstuff, chasing down and lashing a half-dragon who was trying to support his companion.
This air elemental was relatively strong, with a Challenge Rating of 7. It was faster, immune to poison and being knocked prone, and had resistance to bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing. Against a half-dragon, it was like a father beating his son.
The half-dragon could only block in a sorry state. His breath weapon was useless, and his scattered counterattacks could not hit the air elemental at all. After taking a few blows, his flesh split open and blood seeped from his facial features.
His half-dragon companion hurried forward to help, but the space here was wide open. The air elemental's movements were unrestricted, and once it began skirmishing, it had nothing to fear.
Seeing the battle turn completely one-sided, Sergei felt both surprised and delighted, and shouted, "That's the Union's President! Everyone, attack together!"
The other adventurers immediately circled around the pit and charged toward the battlefield. Whether or not there was treasure aside, killing off a competitor would definitely do more good than harm.
[Target dead. Gained 5,200 combat experience points]
That half-dragon lay on the ground, eyes wide open and bulging from their sockets, blood streaming down from the corners. His death was miserable.
This way of dying was indeed humiliating. He could not hit his opponent, nor could he escape. His body remained intact, but his mind had already been forcibly crushed.
'No wonder people say psionics are divine skills for bullying weaker opponents.'
Anser sighed inwardly and turned to observe the battlefield.
The air elemental's fighting style was flashy, and it had almost secured a clean win against two half-dragons. As for the last half-dragon, seeing that the battle was going poorly, he ignored his companions. By now, he had already run to the edge of the pit and leapt down.
Anser immediately chased after him. He saw the half-dragon grab ropes from time to time during his fall to slow himself down. After leaving the ropes, he dropped another few dozen meters, smashing several mushrooms apart and kicking up a cloud of dust before finally disappearing into the endless mushroom forest.
Anser did not pursue him. Before those adventurers could steal the kills, he fired several more Mind Slivers in succession, working with the air elemental to kill the other two half-dragons one after another.
[Target dead. Gained 1,850 combat experience points]
[Target dead. Gained 2,200 combat experience points]
He looked at the relatively intact half-dragon corpses, his brows and eyes full of amusement.
'Half-dragons really are nice. A few more and I'll be able to level up.'
Half-dragons were all commanders under chromatic dragons, and there were not many of them. The deaths of these few would probably make the Green Dragon Queen's heart ache for several days.
Sergei and the others had only just run around the edge of the pit. At first, they failed to catch up with the air elemental. By the time they wanted to move forward again, they discovered the battle was already over. Their expressions could not help showing a bit of shock, along with a trace of awkwardness.
Anser landed on the ground, his gaze sweeping toward the undead that had been standing blankly in the distance all this time. He found it secretly strange.
Undead were highly aggressive. When they saw the living, they found it hard to control their loathing for living creatures and their impulse to kill.
"President Holrewen, I'm Sergei, president of the Hunter's Guild's Durlag branch. We've met before." Sergei returned his arrows to his quiver and quickly approached.
"Hello, Mr. Sergei. Would it be convenient for you to tell me what's going on here?" Anser nodded to him.
"These undead drove off the werewolves, then started digging everywhere. In the end, they dug until the place collapsed..."
