Next came the enhancement of his Metamagic abilities.
Every option was good, but he particularly favored "Maximized Spell" and "Enhanced Twinned Spell."
"Maximized Spell" was an upgraded version of "Empowered Spell." Both could increase spell damage.
"Maximized" was easy enough to understand—it meant developing innate spellcasting to its absolute limit, allowing every spell attack to deal maximum possible damage.
Take a 3rd-level Fireball as an example. Its base damage was 8d6 (8–48). After applying Maximized Metamagic, every cast would reach the theoretical cap of 48 damage.
Of course, due to different resistances and physical toughness, actual damage would rarely reach the theoretical value.
"Enhanced Twinned Spell" had a much broader range of applications. Nearly all spells that targeted individuals could use it, such as Chaos Bolt, Witch Bolt, Levitate, and Mage Armor.
At its core, it was still the casting of a single spell—it merely increased the number of targets affected. Because of that, it could not be used on spells like Magic Missile, Fireball, Bigby's Hand, or Conjure Elemental.
Come to think of it, Anser did not use Twinned Spell very often in the first place, mainly because its scope was too narrow.
Compared to crowd control, double-layered defenses, buffs, or dual-target attacks, he preferred the thrill of instantly annihilating powerful enemies. In the end, he chose "Maximized Spell."
"Magic Power Control" advanced to the sixth tier, allowing him to easily wield 6th-level spells while significantly improving his casting stability.
In addition, his Magic Power increased by 5 points, his Attack Roll gained +1, and his Damage Roll gained +1.
The last time his Damage Rolls had increased was at the third tier, for a total bonus of +2—an effect comparable to a rare +2 weapon.
Finally came the supernatural manifestation granted by Arcane Bloodline. He could fuse two innate spells together, but at present only "Tasha's Transcendent Form" was truly suitable.
Only after selecting it did he learn that manifesting a Transcendent Form required choosing a source of magic power: the Upper Planes or the Lower Planes.
The Lower Planes generally referred to the lower regions of the Outer Planes, while the Upper Planes referred to the higher regions. Different magic sources granted different forms of damage immunity.
When casting spells, the source of magic power could be changed freely. Supernatural abilities, however, could not. They required anchoring to a specific plane, and once chosen, it could never be changed.
After thinking it over for a moment, he did not choose the more universally useful Lower Planes, but instead selected the Upper Planes.
That was because immunity to radiant and necrotic erosion damage was exceedingly rare. If he missed this opportunity, he might never obtain them again. Fire and poison immunity, on the other hand, could still be acquired through many other means in the future.
[Spell: Otiluke's Freezing Sphere, Tasha's Transcendent Form. Charisma: +2. Arcane Bloodline: Tasha's Transcendent Form. Metamagic Enhancement: Maximized Spell. Confirm?]
"Confirm!"
In the next instant, his bloodline seemed to ignite.
His innate magic churned violently as his body instantly transformed into a half-dragon form. Dragon wings spread wide behind him, beating slowly as he floated in midair. Every scale shimmered with magical radiance, dazzlingly bright.
The changes in his bloodline were far more intense than he had imagined.
He felt as though he had been swept into a violent vortex of magic power, his body being torn and ground apart by countless invisible forces. Yet his mind remained extraordinarily clear, steadily absorbing inheritance memories pouring into him like a flood.
Time stretched endlessly.
Who knew how long had passed before Anser suddenly shuddered, his consciousness breaking free from the profound torrent of spell knowledge.
He opened his eyes and discovered himself floating weightlessly in the spacious room.
Lowering his head, he saw that the exposed skin across his body was now covered in dragon scales, denser than before and carrying a strange metallic beauty.
'I'm... floating!'
He immediately sensed that something was different. Turning his head, he discovered that three pairs of enormous dragon wings had grown from his back, arranged symmetrically in an exceptionally mysterious fashion.
'This... actually looks pretty harmonious.'
He flapped his dragon wings, his body gliding lightly through the room with astonishing stability and fluidity. He could stop and accelerate at will, dash forward, strafe sideways, fly backward, or hover in place as though performing aerial acrobatics.
They were even more agile and practical than his own legs.
As he carefully observed them, he realized that although the three pairs of dragon wings appeared roughly the same size, they actually had distinct primary and secondary roles.
The uppermost pair of main wings was the thickest and most powerful. Each wing possessed a retractable four-clawed hook capable of both offense and defense.
The middle pair of secondary wings balanced power and flexibility while possessing greater toughness. They provided secondary propulsion, enabling many high-difficulty maneuvers.
The lowest pair of auxiliary wings was the softest and offered the finest level of control. Though they provided less thrust, hovering and backward flight depended entirely on them.
The three pairs of dragon wings—from Wings of the Firmament, Dragonkind Transformation, and Tasha's Transcendent Form—worked together in perfect coordination, collectively forming the supernatural ability known as flight and pushing it to the absolute limit of his current form.
Anser was overjoyed.
He left the black tower and flew wildly through the skies above the island for a while before hovering in midair to inspect his current condition.
He had gained a new supernatural ability: "Transcendent Form." By absorbing the magic power of the Outer Planes and combining it with Dragonkind Transformation, his body manifested a unique transcendent state.
Unlike ordinary spell effects, some of its abilities were permanent, while others required active activation and had a duration, much like dragon breath.
Under normal conditions, he still remained human, but his Armor Class gained a permanent +2 bonus. This was a passive effect that was always active.
When entering Dragonkind Transformation, however, he would grow three pairs of dragon wings and gain the ability of unrestricted flight.
At that point, he could activate Transcendent Form at any time for a cumulative duration of ten minutes.
Once inside Transcendent Form, he became immune to radiant damage, necrotic damage, and charm effects. All of his weapon attacks counted as magical attacks, and he could use his spellcasting ability modifier in place of Strength or Dexterity for both Attack Roll and Damage Roll calculations. In addition, he gained the "Extra Attack" ability.
'Not bad. Permanent Armor Class, and I can use the flight ability whenever I want.' Anser was not disappointed at all.
Transcendent Form consumed energy, so being able to sustain it for ten minutes was already excellent. The original spell version only lasted a single minute.
Now, even without casting Fly, his flight speed could easily surpass that of a wyvern, while his agility was no worse than the Fly spell itself.
This ability alone would allow him to effortlessly deal with many dangerous situations.
'What if I cast the spell again?' A sudden thought crossed his mind.
He focused and cast the 6th-level spell "Tasha's Transcendent Form" once more.
As the power of the Lower Planes poured into him, his "Transcendent Form" underwent no visible changes. He did not grow another pair of wings, but he did gain immunity to fire and poison.
'It works—but it doesn't stack.' Anser grinned from ear to ear.
Although the immunity only lasted for one minute, it was still far better than nothing and could prove invaluable at a critical moment.
He summoned his character sheet and examined the changes in his attributes.
His Hit Points had reached 143, while his Magic Power had skyrocketed to 190—a tremendous increase.
However, casting a 6th-level spell now required 11 points of Magic Power, making the consumption much heavier. Overall, his endurance was not quite as outrageous as it first appeared.
His Charisma had reached 23 points, significantly improving his spell damage, casting speed, range, and area of effect.
His Armor Class had risen to 24, and that was without wearing armor or carrying a shield. He was confident that this defensive ability alone surpassed that of an ordinary young dragon.
After leveling up, only six thousand experience points remained in his pool. Fortunately, reaching Level 12 required only 15,000 experience points—actually less than what had been needed to go from Level 10 to Level 11.
He had already crossed the bottleneck of his rank and entered a stage of steady growth.
