Aidan.
I glanced over at the pale-looking Daniel, and the sight of him made the unease already twisting inside me tighten even further.
Every trace of color had drained from his face until his skin looked almost unnaturally white, giving him the appearance of a ghost standing beneath the cold light that illuminated the seclusion room.
His lips had parted ever so slightly, yet no words came out. They simply couldn't. Raw, overwhelming confusion was carved into every line of his face, so stark and unguarded that it was impossible to mistake.
His brows remained tightly drawn together, his eyes unfocused as though his mind was desperately trying to piece together fragments of a puzzle that refused to fit. It was the expression of a man whose entire understanding of reality had just been violently shattered.
Seeing that look on Daniel's face only sent my own thoughts spiraling faster.
