Chapter 162 - Ch. 162: A Short Battle With Twins

Vegeta didn't bother uncrossing his arm as he dealt with the twins' attacks without pause or visible effort, sneering as he flaunted his clear superiority against the two half-Saiyans.

They'd clearly never met a fighter as vastly superior to them as Vegeta was, and it made his blood boil a bit, seeing the two improve mid-combat like true Saiyans.

As he fluttered between a massive volley of energy blasts, originating from the girl, he dodged the boy's punches, occasionally retaliating with a kick of his own, Vegeta found that his chances to retaliate were growing fewer and fewer as, with every flaw they showed, their teamwork simply became better, leaving fewer and fewer openings, and allowing faster and faster attacks as time went on.

Originally, the Prince found it rather impressive. Though he was still holding back a small portion of his strength, and not utilizing his arms, individually, the twins' power levels both felt like they hit roughly as hard as Mel had, back when they'd met, around a year and a half ago. Maybe a bit stronger, for individual power levels of around fifteen thousand or so.

If Vegeta hadn't gotten all of that fighting experience against other Saiyans, and against Mel, over these last few months, he may have even lost this battle… but it wasn't long before he figured out the secret to the twins- unusually high power.

Their bodies' respective micro-movements, the facial expressions of rage and determination, the rightening of the tails, the subtleties in the breathing patterns, gave the secret away.

It wasn't something Vegeta had encountered before, but it wasn't the strangest thing that Vegeta had ever encountered, over his many years of battling aliens across the cosmos.

Immediately, his desire to continue the battle died.

Vegeta uncrossed his arms, released his full, 25,000 power level, and blasted the boy away to give himself breathing room. He wasn't interested in this battle anymore.

As soon as he hit the boy, the girl stopped with her energy blasts, just as Vegeta had expected. Though unable to see him, she'd immediately known exactly what state that her brother was in.

Vegeta didn't hesitate to take advantage of that.

Appearing behind her as if he'd taken on a job as a ghost, Vegeta slammed a powerful fist directly into the center of the girl's lower back. She dropped like a rag doll, instantly unconscious.

Nearby, the boy screamed in pain. Just as Vegeta had anticipated. His body seemed to have a slightly higher pain tolerance than the girl's, but the pain that'd knocked her unconscious had been shared nonetheless.

Somehow, the twins seemed to have some sort of mental link that allowed them to share energy between each other, allowing them to bring out more energy when they fought together.

Vegeta would use that in the future. They would be worthwhile warriors in his army one day… and he would have an army one day.

He grabbed the girl by the tail, which had gone limp when she passed out. Squeezing, he sent a small bit of energy into the girl's body, burning her from the inside, for the singular purpose of causing extreme pain. Interestingly enough, while the girl's unconscious body screamed involuntarily, the boy simply gritted his teeth and stared.

Vegeta didn't bother engaging the boy beyond that. The battle was over. He had won, and they all knew it. Further fighting would be pointless.

With a nod to Mel, she knocked the boy unconscious from behind with a single, easy chop to the neck.

As they flew back to the ship, Vegeta addressed the woman who'd come to watch him capture the two half-Saiyans. "You didn't need to come with me. I could handle myself just fine." He told her.

"Until you overestimate yourself." She replied simply.

"That is not your problem, wo-Mel." His grip on the female's tail grew stiff as he forced himself to address Mel by her name. He'd learned the hard way that there were severe consequences for not showing her that most basic respect, but it still felt like a blow, every time he forced himself to do so.

"If you die, I'm stuck on a ship with those disgusting pigs. I refuse to be stuck on some random planet again." Mel replied.

The truth of the matter was, Mel actively disliked Raditz and Nappa, and Soy was a weakling, plain and simple. That was the root cause of most of Vegeta's woes, in truth.

Due to that fact, Mel had claimed the corner of his private chamber, rather than simply residing in the barracks with the rest of the crew.

Due to that fact, without Vegeta to act as a buffer, she would quite quickly end up slaughtering the rest of the crew out of pure instinct alone within hours. Which would be terrible, since she would then find herself without the necessary skillset to repair, or even pilot the ship's rather complex controls. She'd be stuck, and she knew it, but she'd slaughter them anyway, because that was simply how their personalities grated against hers.

But Vegeta knew that wasn't the only reason. "Woman, that one mistake does not give you reason to act like my mother. It happened. Get over it." He barked through grated teeth.

"Hm." Mel didn't see the point in replying to that. They both knew the truth, and both had their own complex feelings about the matter.

For Saiyans, reproduction wasn't a particular priority. They'd never had a particularly massive population… but that actually, for them, made the act much more special, in a way.

Once a Saiyan mated with another, the attraction between them would lock into place as an absolute, irresistible pull. Essentially, that'd be the end of the story, right then and there, with few exceptions.

Vegeta, realistically speaking, had ruined any chance he had of being attracted to anyone other than Mel in the future. Surprisingly, he was okay with this… but his pride would not allow him to admit that. Nor would it allow him to simply roll over and accept Mel's place at his side, simply because his instincts had decided that was where she naturally deserved to be.

He'd rather spend the rest of his life alone than as Mel's underling, disguised as a husband. He wouldn't be the first Saiyan to leave their mate and spend the rest of their lives alone, and he likely wouldn't be the last. It happened.

Mel's own feelings were similar, but she was slightly more self-actualized from her long years as a captive on that terrible planet. While Vegeta believed that she was overbearing and too headstrong, she thought that he was a fool with more pride (or ego, depending on the day), than sense… But he was also noble, strong, and rather caring (for a Saiyan), in his own way.

The result was a rather complex relationship where both sides wanted the same thing: To protect and dominate the other in equal measure, without giving the other a window to see the truth of their feelings on the matter.
