Under Amon's relentless persuasion, Buggy was finally talked into it.
A hundred thousand berries was not much to him. At worst, he could treat it as repayment for having his life saved.
"All right then," Amon said with a grin as he took the money from Buggy. "Which one do you want?"
"That red one. Looks festive enough."
Buggy pointed at a red Jar near the front. He was not expecting much, so he picked one at random based on color alone.
"The red one? Fine. Good luck, Buggy."
Seeing that Buggy still did not really believe in any of this, Amon did not bother explaining further. He also stopped trying to sell to the others for the moment. Once Buggy opened the Jar and something good came out, the rest would not need much convincing.
"Just smash it open."
Buggy nodded, lifted the Jar, and struck it.
With a sharp crack, the Jar broke apart, and two items fell out.
What fell out was a pair of shoes and a small scrap of map.
Buggy stared at them blankly.
What was this supposed to be?
Amon coughed lightly and took the items from him. "Captain Buggy, the contents of a Jar need to be appraised first. Only then do we know what they are."
He left Buggy with a brief wait and began checking the properties of the two items.
[Invisible Shoes]: From the world of Doraemon. Shoes that hide the wearer's feet once put on. A useful tool for scaring people.
Invisible shoes?
They only hid the feet?
At first glance, that sounded nearly useless.
Then Amon paused.
No, not useless.
For Buggy, this was almost perfect.
Because of the Chop-Chop Fruit, Buggy could split the rest of his body apart and let it fly freely, but his feet had to remain on the ground. That was his biggest weakness. If someone seized his feet with Seastone or simply threw them into the sea, he would be in real trouble.
But if those feet were invisible, then that weakness became vastly harder to exploit.
For anyone else, these shoes would be a ridiculous gimmick. For Buggy, they were practically a divine item.
Amon relaxed after seeing the first reward. As long as he displayed these shoes properly, the others would definitely start coveting the Jars.
Then he checked the second item.
[Treasure Map Fragment]: A fragment of a certain treasure map. It is said that if the map can be restored, it will lead to an enormous treasure.
This one was much weaker.
A fragment of a treasure map was the purest kind of empty promise. The treasure might exist, and it might even be enormous, but without the complete map, finding it was another matter entirely.
Still, that was not a problem.
Whether it could lead anywhere or not, Amon could simply hype it to the heavens.
"Well? What did I get?"
Buggy's voice had turned noticeably more eager. He had started this with no expectations, but now that the Jar was open, he could not help hoping for something good.
Amon smiled and held up the shoes first.
"Buggy, your luck is better than I thought. You pulled two good items."
"Really?"
Buggy shot upright at once.
"Of course." Amon gave the shoes a small shake. "This is called the Invisible Shoes. Once you wear them, your feet disappear from sight."
Buggy blinked.
"Invisible Shoes? They only hide my feet. How is that a treasure?"
Amon stared at him for a second.
He had assumed Buggy would understand immediately. Clearly, he had overestimated the man.
After a brief pause, Amon sighed and decided to spell it out.
"That is absolutely a treasure. If I'm not mistaken, the Devil Fruit you ate was the Chop-Chop Fruit, right?"
Buggy looked startled. "That's right. You know that too?"
That was hardly difficult. Amon knew much more than that, including the fact that Buggy and one of the Four Emperors, Shanks, had once served on the same ship. But there was no reason to bring that up. Buggy clearly did not have fond feelings where Red-Haired Shanks was concerned. After all, it was because of Shanks that he had swallowed the fruit and lost the ability to swim.
So Amon skipped past that and went straight to the point.
"I know more than that. I also know that once your body splits, your feet cannot leave the ground."
"Your fruit ability is very good, but your feet are your greatest weakness. And now, you've opened a pair of shoes that can make them invisible."
"Think about it. Once you wear these, no one can see where your feet are. That means after using your Devil Fruit ability, you no longer have to worry so much about someone grabbing them, throwing them into the sea, or locking them down with Seastone."
"After hearing that, do you still think these shoes are useless?"
Amon finished and waved the Invisible Shoes in front of him.
This time, Buggy's eyes widened completely.
Then they lit up.
