The heart transplant surgery, co-led by Deng Chunming and Zhang Shi'an, clocked in at a final time of four hours and forty-six minutes.
This left Mr. Deng extremely frustrated.
A little over half an hour later, Yan Feifan and the five titans of cardiac surgery gathered in the fifth-floor imaging review room to analyze a video replay of the dual-surgeon heart transplant.
The surgical video started playing from the moment the heart was placed into the patient's chest cavity. After twelve minutes at triple speed, Deng Chunming reached out and pressed the pause button.
"Mr. Zhang, this is where the problem started..."
Deng Chunming slapped his thigh and said, "Because I wasn't used to it, and it still felt a bit awkward, I found myself slowing down at the beginning."
Zhang Shi'an nodded as well. "You slowed down, so I deliberately slowed my pace to match yours."
"It wasn't until we got to the venous sutures that I felt I'd hit my stride and no longer had to adjust to your pace."
