"But I'm scared staying at home. I'll probably be up all night," Jiangg Yao stammered. She was telling the truth, not lying.
If she were left to sleep alone in the guest bedroom, she probably wouldn't be able to fall asleep until morning, her mind running wild with anxious thoughts.
On Chen Yuan's end, there was a moment of silence as he considered whether it was appropriate for Jiangg Yao to go out in the middle of the night.
But just from their short exchange, he could sense that something wasn't right with her.
"I'll come get you. Send me your location."
As he spoke, the sound of rustling as he got out of bed came through the phone. Jiangg Yao heard it and quickly said, "No, don't! I can drive over, it's fast. It'll only take a few minutes. Just open the door for me."
She hung up before Chen Yuan could refuse.
