Alvin Morgan's mind raced, replaying the lab's floor plan over and over.
They were now very close to where the madwoman was being held. They just had to get through the corridor ahead to reach her.
But all the lights in this corridor were now extinguished, with only a dense web of red laser beams blocking their path.
Alvin had locked the door behind them, keeping the security guards outside from breaking in—for now.
"Aurora, the switch is up ahead. Once you press it, the system will take about ten seconds to reboot. Be extremely careful; don't let the lasers touch you."
Aurora Sinclair nodded. She shed her heavy protective suit, revealing the tight, black combat gear underneath, and moved forward, as nimble as a swallow.
The seconds ticked by.
A furious roar erupted from behind Alvin Morgan.
The security guards outside were already attacking the door with their weapons.
Aurora Sinclair wasn't slow; she was already two-thirds of the way there.
