Cecilia Adler smiled shyly. "You're flattering me. I'm just afraid it'll be cold."
Ian Quincy took out a scarf and draped it over her shoulders. "Wear this on the way. It'll block the wind."
Cecilia Adler nodded.
Ian Quincy then took out a pair of bracelets and slid them onto her wrists. "Wear these."
"You got me jewelry, too? The engraving is so intricate. What is it made of?" 'It looks like gold, but not quite.'
'The gold at the department store counters is much shinier than this.'
"It's gold," he said, his expression turning cold again. "What? You think it's too old?"
"No, no, no! I was just curious about the material. Of course I like it," Cecilia Adler explained frantically. She knew she wasn't worldly and didn't know much, but she could still appreciate fine objects. The bracelets might be old, but the carvings on them were exceptionally detailed.
'The discoloration must be from age.'
'Is this a family heirloom?'
She added, "I'll wear them every day."
