"Your mother-in-law sent them." After class, Ian Quincy had gone back to the courtyard house. Mrs. Quincy had given him the clothes, saying she was fulfilling a promise she'd made to him to buy some for Cecilia.
He didn't remember ever making such a request and guessed it was something that damn other guy had done.
"Mom is so good to me," Cecilia Adler said happily, returning to her room to try the clothes on.
It was a long, dark, belted trench coat paired with a white long-sleeved blouse underneath. The cuffs flared out like lotus leaves, covering half of her hands.
The faded, grayish-blue trousers were made of a linen-like material she had never seen before. It was a bit stiff, yet it wasn't scratchy against her skin. They were loose and comfortable.
She looked in the mirror.
Positively aristocratic.
She was very pleased.
