Her stomach dropped.
'Don't tell me she's really here to borrow money, just like Grandma Jocelyn predicted.'
As she stepped into the courtyard, Grandma Jocelyn was the first to spot her. She winked, as if to say, 'See? I was right. Charlotte really came.' "Your friend Charlotte is looking for you."
Cecilia Adler turned her head. There was Charlotte Dalton, holding her child and smiling at her, dressed in the clothes Cecilia had bought for her.
"We were just talking about you! Grandma Jocelyn said you went into the city. What did you buy?" Charlotte's gaze fell on the cloth bag in Ian's hands.
Ian gave her a slight nod in greeting before heading into the room.
Cecilia grabbed a stool for herself and sat down next to Grandma Jocelyn. "Just stocking up on some daily necessities. What brings you here today?"
Charlotte pointed to the bamboo shoots beside her. "I just dug these this morning. I brought some over for you."
Cecilia looked at Grandma Jocelyn, shocked.
