"There you go again," the old woman chided. "Don't you dare refuse! It's a token of your father's affection, after all. You can't put a price on that. No matter how much you resent him, you can't just waste it."
Cecilia remained silent.
The old woman made the decision. "I'll take everything I can carry. Whatever's left, you can eat yourself. How does that sound?"
Cecilia couldn't win against her, so she just mumbled an "Oh."
The old woman asked, "So what day are we leaving, exactly? I need to get ready."
"This Friday." Cecilia planned to leave after settling the housing matters.
"It's only Monday, so we have plenty of time. Just enough for me to finish embroidering the duvet cover," the old woman said.
Cecilia's gaze swept over to the bed, where a blush-colored fabric lay. It was cotton, suitable for winter. The edge of the sheet was embroidered with a ruffled border, a different style from the ones they had at home. "It's very pretty. How much did it cost?"
