Cecilia Adler said with a bright smile, "Ian, come and eat. Want to go to the wet market with me later?"
"Doesn't Aunt Goldsmith buy the groceries for the house?"
"I'll be doing the shopping from now on." Cecilia Adler voiced her suspicion about Aunt Goldsmith taking kickbacks. "I'm not against her getting a little something on the side. There's a saying that water too pure has no fish. She's running errands for us, so it's reasonable for her to get a small fee for her trouble. But to take our money and not only show no gratitude but also badmouth us—that's what I can't stand."
Ian Quincy's sense of morality was black and white. "We should let her go."
Cecilia Adler said, "Aunt Goldsmith is a good worker. If we fire her, her replacement might not be as efficient."
"If they don't work out, we'll just find another one."
"It's not that easy to find someone," Cecilia Adler said, urging him to hurry up and eat.
