Aurora's words seemed so thoughtless, yet every sentence was a slap in Joy's face.
'What "First Mother"! "Official Mother"! "The original wife"!'
'Wasn't this just a blatant way of calling her, Joy Dalton, the other woman, a replacement wife? Of saying that Sharon was the daughter of a mistress?!'
Joy was seething, but she couldn't possibly lash out at Aurora. Because Aurora's words seemed completely innocent—she was merely confused.
