"Are those people really your friends?" Damien Valerius asked softly, his voice perfectly even.
A helpless smile touched Aurora Sterling's lips; she didn't know how to answer him. The man was testing her more and more frequently. He'd ask a single question each time, and whether she answered or not, he never pressed the issue.
'Her intuition told her that Damien Valerius must have already figured something out, but he can't be certain. That's why he keeps testing me so casually. Even though my story is full of holes, and even after what happened with Joy Dalton, he has never tried to force the truth out of me. As long as I don't say anything, he chooses to wait.'
'It wasn't that I haven't thought about laying all my cards on the table with Damien Valerius. The more time I spend with him, the more I want to tell him the truth—who I am, and why I came back. But some things, once said, can never be unsaid. And as things stand, I still haven't decided if I'm going to stay.'
