It was just past seven in the evening, and dinner at the Vaughn residence was already over. The moment she left the table, Aurora Sterling was pulled into a room by Sylvia Vaughn.
Aurora had originally wanted to help Auntie with the dishes. After all, aside from Sylvia, she was the only one of the younger generation there. She got along with the Vaughn family, so she was happy to help the elders with whatever chores she could.
But Sylvia wouldn't hear of it, dragging her away while calling back to her mother, "Aurora is going to be family, she's meant to be cherished! How can we let her do something like wash dishes? Besides, she's going to be a doctor! These hands are for holding scalpels. What if the dish soap ruins them?!"
Hearing her daughter say that, her mother was fuming. "You little brat! So I suppose I married into this Vaughn family just to do all the work, is that it? I raised you for nothing! Absolutely nothing!"
