This afternoon, as Raylo was in his study going through some documents, the sound of hurried footsteps echoed from outside.
"My Lord!"
A Personal Guard announced from the doorway.
"Carl is here to see you."
'Carl?'
Raylo raised an eyebrow.
'It's about time I heard from Master Barnaby.'
"Let him in."
Soon, a tall, straight-backed young man in a gray apprentice's robe walked into the study.
It was Carl.
Carl now appeared steady and confident.
His eyes were bright and focused, and he carried the faint scent of potions—the unique mark of someone who spent their years immersed in alchemical experiments.
"My Lord."
Carl gave Raylo a standard Mage's salute.
"There's no need for formalities."
Raylo raised a hand, motioning for him to sit.
"Did Master Barnaby send you?"
"Yes, My Lord."
Carl carefully retrieved a box from his robes and placed it on the desk in front of Raylo.
"My master asked me to deliver this to you."
