Nancy froze, standing stock-still as if she'd been paralyzed.
A few seconds later, she suddenly started wailing her heart out. "I don't want Laura Lowell to be my sister-in-law! When we were kids, didn't you all say you'd arrange an engagement between me and Shaw? How could you go back on your word?"
"There, there, sweetie, let's not make a fuss. Auntie will introduce you to someone better later."
Marian Miller was at her wit's end.
Nancy hung up, looking as pathetic as a child who'd just had her candy stolen. She shot Laura a fierce glare with her teary eyes, then ran out of the hospital room.
"That little handful is finally gone."
Laura let out a long sigh. 'Dealing with that kid is exhausting. I always end up feeling guilty, like I'm bullying a child.'
Aiden dotingly nuzzled her head. "Nancy's liked to follow me around since she was a kid. What she calls 'love' is probably just a force of habit."
