Laura Lowell chuckled and shook her head. "For my own good? Aren't you perfectly clear on who caused the incident that night?"
"If you were really looking out for me, you would have stood up and clarified the facts."
Vivian Yardley admitted to himself that he had selfish motives. He was holding on to a sliver of wishful thinking, even hoping that Laura Lowell and Aiden Shaw would break up over this.
'This might be his chance.'
'A chance to get close to Laura, to pursue her.'
"Laura, can we meet and talk?"
"There's no need for that."
Laura's rejection was sharp and final.
"I just wanted to..."
"I have something to do. That's all for now. I'm hanging up."
Without giving Vivian Yardley another chance to speak, Laura hung up the phone.
Laura put down her phone, threw back the covers, and got out of bed. She went into the bathroom to wash her face.
She planned to go to the supermarket, buy some groceries, and cook dinner for Aiden Shaw herself that evening.
