Laura Lowell didn't break her stride, but a sharp pang, like the prick of a needle, shot through her heart.
"It's late. It's not safe for you to be driving alone. Let me take you home."
Austin Thorne draped his overcoat over his arm, a complex expression on his face as his lips quirked.
"No, thank you. And please, stop following me."
Laura Lowell opened her car door and looked at Austin Thorne, her brow furrowed. Her red-rimmed eyes betrayed her impatience.
Austin Thorne raised an eyebrow but said nothing, simply walking toward his own car.
Laura Lowell got into the car, leaned over to buckle her seatbelt, and then drove off.
Austin Thorne's Maybach followed closely behind.
When she sped up, his car did too. When she slowed down, he did the same.
