Laura Lowell shoved Aiden Shaw away with all her might. The anger she had been bottling up for the past two days suddenly found an outlet, and she screamed hysterically.
Tears streamed uncontrollably down her face.
Laura Lowell kept walking, not watching where she was going at all. Her heel plunged right into one of the holes in a manhole cover.
She lost her balance and pitched backward.
Aiden Shaw rushed over, catching her just in time. Thankfully, she didn't fall.
"Your heel's broken. I'll carry you home on my back."
Aiden Shaw glanced at the shoe caught in the manhole cover, then immediately turned around, placed Laura Lowell's hands on his shoulders, and hoisted her onto his back.
It was all one swift, fluid motion.
He didn't give Laura Lowell any time to react or refuse.
"Aiden Shaw, put me down right now."
"Stop squirming. Behave."
His voice was so gentle, it was as if he were coaxing a child.
"Don't think this means I forgive you. Don't even think about it."
