Hannah took the first-aid kit from the drawer and turned to Mrs. Miller. "Mrs. Miller, would you mind making me a bowl of tomato and egg noodles?"
"Of course. I'll go make them right now."
"Thanks, Mrs. Miller."
Hannah gave Mrs. Miller a faint smile, then carried the first-aid kit over to Nathan and sat down beside him. She lowered her head and began to apply the ointment. "Thank you for earlier."
Nathan watched the girl before him, his deep, ink-black eyes swirling with complex emotions.
The scene from the restaurant flashed through his mind: Morgan Joyce wiping the corner of Hannah's mouth, giving her chocolates, placing food on her plate... An inexplicable discomfort settled in his chest.
Hannah kept her head lowered, her soft, long hair cascading over her shoulders. Her touch was light and gentle as she applied the ointment to Nathan.
"Are you friends with that man, Morgan Joyce?"
