Morgan Joyce opened his eyes, grunted, and got out of the car.
Inside the restaurant's private dining room, Mr. Ward and several other company managers were already present. When they saw Morgan Joyce enter, they all rose to their feet to greet him.
"Mr. Joyce, please, have a seat."
The pot-bellied Mr. Ward said with a smile, motioning with his eyes to the woman beside him.
The woman approached Morgan Joyce with a dazzling smile and eagerly pulled out his chair for him. "I'm always hearing everyone say what a dapper, noble gentleman you are, Mr. Joyce. It's one thing to hear the rumors, but seeing you in person is another. You're even more handsome than they describe."
The woman was a flurry of coquettish laughter, and her voice was so sickeningly sweet it was enough to make your skin crawl.
Mr. Lorell remained silent, quietly watching the woman dig her own grave without a clue.
