Diego instinctively shrank back, pressing himself into his seat.
"Your name is Diego. That sounds Mexican." Seeing the young man was a little scared, Feng Shan smiled and changed the subject to ease the tension.
Diego nodded quickly. "Yes, sir. I'm Mexican. I was born on Melon Ranch. Mr. Cecil hired us to work on the ranch. My aunt and uncle are on the ranch, too. Mr. and Mrs. Cecil are good people, and Sister Jenny is a good person, too."
Once he started talking, Diego wasn't so scared anymore, and his words flowed much more smoothly.
He began to talk about his life on the ranch, a smile gradually appearing on his face.
"Can you tell me about Gruus?" Feng Shan asked, subtly guiding the conversation.
