Miles Trenton sat upright. In his peripheral vision, Silas Norwood was acting like an uninvolved bystander, quietly accompanying Celia Sterling, clearly playing a supporting role.
'So, he's made up his mind not to reveal himself.'
Cursing inwardly, Miles Trenton resignedly put on a smile. He ignored Silas Norwood and turned to Celia Sterling with an enthusiastic grin.
"The boss couldn't make it, but he sent me with what you wanted, Miss Sterling."
He took out a thick stack of files and placed them in front of Celia Sterling. "These are the bases compiled by ten actuaries. Please pick one, Miss Sterling."
'According to the plan, ownership of all the bases in this stack was supposed to be transferred today. But of course, his boss had to drop the ball at the critical moment. Now, even if he wanted to lavishly gift all of them to her, he had no proper pretext. All he could do was choose the safest, most appropriate course of action.'
