Vera felt a bit sheepish at the praise, offering an embarrassed, awkward smile.
Rona Langdon was also home. She was still upset about Vera running away, so hearing Master Nathan praise Vera now only soured her mood further. However, Master Nathan's status was so esteemed that she wouldn't dare speak out of turn in front of him, not even if she had ten times the nerve.
She simply said, "Vera isn't all that great. It was just a coincidence."
Master Nathan asked Vera, "Vera, I heard you had exams recently. How did you do?"
Before Vera could answer, Rona Langdon cut in with a sneer, "Vera has always been quite dim. She's not the scholarly type. I doubt she did very well this time either."
Noticing the test papers in her hand, Master Nathan asked, "Could I take a look at your exams?"
Vera glanced at Nathaniel Nathan. 'Master Nathan asking about my exams right now... This is almost certainly Nathaniel's doing,' she thought.
