Vera Xavier walked over to the shopkeeper and said, "Ma'am, a bag of salt, please."
The gossiping women immediately fell silent, their gazes now holding a new level of curiosity and scrutiny.
Vera Xavier simply smiled back without offering an explanation. She bought the salt and left.
She had barely taken a few steps before the women were eagerly chattering again. "So that's the Preston Family's good girl? I never noticed before, but she's quite pretty."
"Yeah, I always thought that since she was from the countryside, she'd be crude and uncultured. But looking at her now, she doesn't seem so bad!"
"Isn't that the truth? Fair skin, big eyes... she's a rare beauty. But have you guys noticed? She doesn't resemble Preston or Langdon."
Hearing this, Vera Xavier found it both ironic and bitter. 'I'm not part of the Preston Family, so of course I don't look like Zachary Preston or Rona Langdon. It's just... I never once thought about that in my past life.'
